King Jehoshaphat of Judah was alarmed when he learned that a vast enemy army was coming against him. (1) He proclaimed a fast and sought the Lord in prayer. (2) He proclaimed God's power and faithfulness and the people's helplessness. God reassured them not to fear as the battle belonged to Him. (3) God told them to take up their positions and watch Him deliver them, which they did, resulting in victory without a fight as the enemy armies destroyed each other. The people praised and thanked God for His deliverance.

When we lift up our eyes, soul, voice and hands, with perspective, conviction, declaration and surrender; we position ourselves for a far greater understanding of God and how we can praise Him: Because how we praise follows who praise.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

8. 2 CHRONICLES 20:1-2
1
After this, the Moabites and Ammonites
with some of the Meunites came to wage
war against Jehoshaphat.
2
Some people came and told Jehoshaphat,
“A vast army is coming against you from
Edom, from the other side of the Dead Sea.
It is already in Hazezon Tamar” (that is, En
Gedi).
9. We may suddenly find ourselves in most
serious peril.
Such things do occur to nations, to
Churches, to families, to individual men. In
some wholly unexpected quarter a grave
difficulty arises.
11. 2 CHRONICLES 20:3
3
Alarmed… (NIV)
3
Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news…
(NLT)
3
And Jehoshaphat feared… (KJV)
3
Then Jehoshaphat was afraid… (ESV)
12. REACTIONS
are typically emotional in nature and often
happen so quickly we don't have time to
appraise our behavior before we've acted.
16. 2 CHRONICLES 20:3-4
3
Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire
of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all
Judah. 4
The people of Judah came together
to seek help from the Lord; indeed, they
came from every town in Judah to seek
him.
17. It is appropriate, in the day of our trial
and our peril, to take active measures
to secure the merciful and mighty
succor of our God.
22. (1) A Dissuasive against Fear
2 Chronicles 20:15
15
He said:“Listen, King Jehoshaphat and
all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is
what the Lord says to you:‘Do not be afraid
or discouraged because of this vast army.
For the battle is not yours, but God’s.
23. (2) A Command to Advance &
Directions to Follow
2 Chronicles 20:16-17a
16
Tomorrow march down against them…
17a
You will not have to fight this battle.
Take up your positions; stand firm and
see the deliverance the Lord will give
you, Judah and Jerusalem.
24. (3) An Encouragement to
Hope forVictory
2 Chronicles 20:17b
17b
Do not be afraid; do not be
discouraged. Go out to face them
tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’”
26. 2 CHRONICLES 20:18-19
18
Jehoshaphat bowed down with his face to
the ground, and all the people of Judah and
Jerusalem fell down in worship before the
Lord. 19
Then some Levites from the
Kohathites and Korahites stood up and
praised the Lord, the God of Israel, with a
very loud voice.
27. "Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his
face to the ground", in token of
humility and reverence, as well as of
adoration and submission. Levites,
stood up to praise the Lord God of
Israel with an exceeding loud voice,"
adding notes of thanksgiving and
rejoicing.
29. It is not the
trials that make
us strong, but
our responses in
those trials.
30. 2 CHRONICLES 20:15
15
He said:“LISTEN,
King Jehoshaphat and
all who live in Judah and Jerusalem!
This is what the Lord says to you:
‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because
of this vast army.
For the battle is not yours, but God’s.
32. LUKE 4:18
18
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because
he has anointed me to proclaim good news
to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim
freedom for the prisoners and recovery of
sight for the blind, to set the oppressed
free,
