The Thesis The thesis, or central idea One-sentence statement that sums up the major ideas of the speech Should be specific and cover all main points Example: Topic: Emergencies Purpose: to inform Thesis Statement: Three major steps in responding to an emergency are surveying the scene, contacting an emergency medical service, and starting CPR if needed.
8. HOMEWORK Come up with a thesis statement for your speech. If you chose a topic you’re not familiar with, you may need to do some research for this step. The thesis will guide your research for the next few days (don’t worry, you may need to change it as you learn more about your topic!)
