The Impact of Marcellus Gas Drilling on Rural Drinking Water SuppliesMarcellus Drilling News
A multi-year study by the bipartisan Center for Rural Pennsylvania on the effects of Marcellus Shale gas drilling on rural water supplies. The study concludes that fracking does not lead to chemical contamination of water supplies, and likely does not affect methane migration into water supplies (although the authors recommend more study of the methane migration issue).
A presentation on the hydrogeology & water supply associated with the Rosemont Copper Project developed by the Erroll L. Montgomery & Associates, Inc. This presentation was given to the Forest Service and their contractors during technical transfer meetings in November 2008.

Experience Ms. Robison has over 30 years of experience in the geosciences. She has
extensive experience providing hydrogeologic and environmental consulting
services for state, federal, and private facilities. Site investigations have included
soil and groundwater characterizations with logging and sampling of soil and rock
formations, well installations, and well tests. She has also performed ground water
modeling, risk assessments, and statistical evaluations. She has served as expert
witness presenting before a jury.
Recent Project Experience
Alaska Specific Dalton Highway near Yukon River. Served as on-site hydrogeologist for
Emergency Response and Cleanup of a diesel spill from a tanker truck roll over on
the Dalton Highway. Spill occurred at the end of winter where timing was critical to
complete cleanup before spring thaw. Performed investigations to determine the
extent of the release and directed excavation of soils for off-site disposal. Collected
head space samples for characterization and soil samples for verification of cleanup.
Worked with frozen soils and melting/thawing conditions that required water
management. An underground fiber optic cable extended through the center of the
contaminated area and had to be exposed then buried as part of backfilling and site
renovation. Wrote reports and worked with regulators.
Indian, Kodiak, Aniak, Anchorage, and Dillingham, Alaska-. Performed annual
groundwater sampling at a site under a long term monitoring plan in Indian, Alaska.
Collected samples, reviewed analytical data, and prepared report. Provided
oversight for the decommissioning of three heating fuel underground storage tanks
2. in Kodiak, Alaska. Tanks were closed in place. Worked with local officials; emptied,
cleaned, and filled tanks with a sand/cement slurry. Provided oversight for the
construction of a land farm for petroleum containing soils in Aniak, Alaska.
Performed pre- and post-construction sampling. Performed a hazardous materials
survey prior to planned demolition of properties in Anchorage, Alaska. Performed
data analysis and wrote reports. Conducted annual groundwater sampling at the
landfill in Dillingham.
UST Projects Closed, Operating, and Abandoned Gas Stations Sites, Mid-Western and
Western states. Conducted RBCA investigations and closures in 11 states for a
Retail Travel Center. Prepared the first RBCA Tier 2 Closure Report that was
accepted for closure by the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, Division of
Environmental Response and Remediation (UDERR). Performed investigations at
sites in Utah under the UDERR Underground Storage Tank Program. Projects
included site investigations, hydrogeologic testing, soil and ground water
remediation, and vapor testing. Closed two above ground storage tank (AST)
cases in Logan Utah under the Utah DEQ Division of Water Quality.
ESAs Environmental Site Assessments, Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Colorado.
Conducted Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments for buyers, sellers,
and financial parties in state and private sectors. Phase II environmental
assessments have included soil and groundwater contamination studies, logging and
sampling of soil and rock formations, monitor well installation, well tests, and
sampling for both organic and inorganic contaminants.
RCRA/CERCLA Vanadium Processing Facility, Soda Springs, Idaho. Assisted in 10-year review
and assessment of Data Quality Objectives (DQOs) and revision of the conceptual
site model (CSM). Provided a critical review of previous modeling efforts and
contaminant transport predictions. Performed Long-Term Monitoring Optimization
using the MAROS program to process 11+ years of ground water data. Helped to
identify data gaps and provide recommendations to address data needs.
Four Copper Mines, Arizona. Served as member of an audit team in conducting
internal mine audits for compliance with RCRA, CERCLA, and state regulations.
Performed facility reconnaissance, reviewed files, and interviewed employees.
Tracked waste disposal practices. Presented results with recommendations to facility
management.
Ground Water Desert Power, Electric Plant, Utah. Performed an extensive field study in search
of low salinity groundwater to be used in plant operations near Rowley, Utah, located
on the south side of the Great Salt Lake. The existing power plant was being
restructured as a co-generation plant that can produce more energy but requires a
reliable resource of low salinity water. Supervised the drilling of seven test wells to
maximum depths of 400 feet below surface. Performed three step-drawdown tests
and long-term aquifer tests, extending as long as seven days. Evaluated test results
and updated a conceptual model of the aquifer system.
Farm Management Company, Brigham Creek Dairy, Utah. Performed a
hydrogeologic evaluation for a ground water discharge permit at the proposed
Brigham Creek Dairy site in Elberta, UtahDrilled three deep wells around the
proposed discharge ponds, sampled ground water, and evaluated ground water
characteristics including well data from the surrounding area. Attended meetings to
negotiate permit requirements with the Division of Water Quality.
Municipal Well Installations, Blanding, Utah. Served as field geologist, observing
and directing drilling and installation of three municipal wells for the City 0f Blanding.
Wells were drilled to depths of 1,700 to 1,900 feet below surface and completed in
the Navajo Formation. Provided oversight for well testing and performed data
analysis to determine aquifer properties used in engineering design and pump
selection.
3. Groundwater Analysis, Mercur, Utah. Performed solute transport analysis for
closure of a valley fill area at the Barrick Mercur Gold Mine in Mercur, Utah. The
purpose of the analysis was to evaluate the potential impacts from water infiltrating
through the closed cyanide-leaching area to ground water beneath the site, and to
predict the distribution of potential contaminants downgradient from the source area
over time.
Expert Witness Civil Action Case, Barranquitas, Puerto Rico. Provided expert witness testimony
on behalf of residents (plaintiffs) in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico in a civil action suit
against tank owner. Residents were seeking restitution for health and environmental
damages associated with a release of petroleum products from a former service
station with underground storage tanks. Provided testimony before the magistrate in
U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and before a jury.
