 Brief Introductions
 Algebra Overview
 Class Activity
 You Need: Your schedule, a pen/pencil, paper
(multiple sheets)
1.) Completely Random. It’s nothing personal, the school is
just trying to even out the number of students in each
class.
2) Algebra may not be the right class for you at this time.
All current algebra & pre-algebra students will be taking a
44 question pre-test tomorrow. BRING A PENCIL (or two)
There will be some changing of classes based on these
scores, but probably only a few students per class.
3) If you need less than 3 quarters of algebra, you may be
asked to complete the 1 or 2 quarters later this year.
1) Syllabus and other class specific information will be
distributed on Thursday.
1) Your notebook: Very important part of the class (10% of
grade), and your ability to learn. Make sure:
a.) It is at least a 3 subject notebook
b.) No composition books!!
c.) The notebook cannot be shared with another class as
you will leave it here from time to time for grading.
d.) A notebook is required, not a binder or folder with
loose paper
e.) This week you will need paper to write on, notebooks
will officially begin on Monday. (This will also be your
first notebook grade)
2) A gmail account:
a.) Everyone is required to have an account as this will be used
not only for our communication, but you will need it to access
the internet part of the class which is 20% of your grade.
b.) I need to know whose account it is, so your first and last
name must be part of your username. No account names like
‘Dman670’, or ‘Ilovederrickfromck4”
c.) gmail.com, the process is quick and easy
3) Get a calculator, (sorry, no phone calculators)
a.) National has scientific calculators for $5.00. Please don’t
spend a lot of money on a calculator, but you will need one.
4) Go to v6math.blogspot.com
a.) Our “outside of class” method of communicating
b.) Resources, Extra Credit, Test Scores, Class Assignments
Important School Policy Changes
1. Cell/ear phones, external speakers only at break, lunch &
after school and only away from classroom bldgs.
a.) As stated in the handbook, and stressed to all MHS
employees at meetings, is that phones must be confiscated
and retrieved by parents only.
b.) I really don’t want to take your phone, honestly, but I
will. Don’t take it out and text on your lap for example,
you’ll lose your phone, and irritate your parents.
2. Every 3rd tardy results in lunch or after school trash duty.
There is only a 5 minute break between 1st & 2nd periods this
year, be aware of that. Tardy means not in the room, seated
and ready to begin.
1. The Assignment:
Our first test will is simply knowing everyone’s name and
something about them
a.) Strategies for learning: examples
b.) Application of strategies for algebra or any other subject.
