From drumming to making (and eating) Navaho fry-bread to engaging in storytelling with Sinixt spokesperson, Marilyn James, it was a terrific week of events celebrating Aboriginal Education Awareness Week at LVR!
The Reach-Out Psychosis presentation at L.V. Rogers. The Matinee rocked the house, and the Q & A revealed just how well-informed our community is about mental illness.
Ms. Jones' Science 10 classes reenacting the predator/prey cycle of a boreal forest ecosystem. Who knew paper circles and sunflower seeds could be so much fun?
The last weekend in April saw the Boys of Spring dominate their own tournament at Queen Elizabeth Park. Check out the slideshow of your Bombers in action!
Former LVR student and chess enthusiast, Wade Courson, was back at school demonstrating his chess-playing prowess by participating in ELEVEN chess matches simultaneously. Apparently, he won all of them! Check out some of the action.
The Environmental Science 12 class went to the Osoyoos Desert Centre a couple of weeks ago to study invasive plant horiculture and desert biomes. Check out the action below!
Twenty-two students from various schools around School District 8 took part in what may have been the very last Police Camp hosted by SD8 and LVR. Check out the action from the weekend!
After several in-class sessions with Dr. Duncan Grady and Dr. Roslyn Grady working the stations of the medicine wheel and its positive influence on personal choice and healthy decisions, Mr. DeMontigny's Grade 9 socials classes heads for a day outdoors to experience the medicine wheel in a different setting. Check out the action!

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
