This study aimed to determine the genetic relationships between Candida albicans strains isolated from dental plaque, trachea, and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from mechanically ventilated intensive care unit patients. Samples were collected from 62 patients and genotyped using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). PFGE analysis found high genetic similarity between isolates from the same patient, with one patient showing identical strains across all three sample sites. Some strains from different patients were also genetically similar, suggesting possible transmission within the ICU. The study demonstrates PFGE is effective for analyzing intra- and inter-patient diversity of C. albicans strains.
