Seminar: Nanotechnology Research & Engaging the Public
Speaker: Dr. Ronald Redwing, Penn State University
                                 February 28, 2012

Dr. Redwing defined nanotechnology as the control of atoms and molecules from 1 to
999 nm. He said that depending on the person or region your in it can be also defined
from 1 to 100nm. Nanotechnology has the potential to develop new things in
medicine, in the creation of smaller devices, and to self assembled structures. It is also
used to explore yet unanswered fundamental materials questions. He talked about the
research summer internships for undergraduate students in Penn State University.
Later he explained how their programs were integrated with education. They have
science museum shows on nanotechnology; summer camps, high school programs
and they do public outreach.
