This document discusses using semantic technologies like the semantic web in SharePoint. It begins with an overview of the semantic web, its goals of linking data to provide related context, and underlying technologies like RDF. It then discusses real world examples of semantic web applications, including the BBC's semantic publishing and Google's Knowledge Graph. Finally, it describes how a company called DIQA provides semantic search solutions for SharePoint, including terminology management, document classification using rules, and navigation of search results using a term tree.
Large corporations have to master vast amounts of heterogeneous data in order to stay competitive. While existing approaches have attempted to consolidate and manage the data by forcing it into a single shared data model, data lakes recently emerged that instead provide a central storage point for holding all data sets in their original form. In this talk, we present eccenca Corporate Memory, which extends the data lake paradigm with a semantic integration layer for managing diverse, but semantically enriched data. In addition to that, we depict our vision for public / private data co-evolution and how we research this topic in the joint project Linked Enterprise Data Services (LEDS) together with the University of Leipzig and other partners.

They also cover the high-level steps of modeling, importing, and querying your data using Cypher and touch on RDBMS to Graph.
A large part of the free knowledge existing on the Web is available as heterogeneous, semi-structured data, which is only weakly interlinked and in general does not include any semantic classification.

GRASP ("Graph for SharePoint") is the SharePoint solution that brings professional terminology management to the SharePoint term store. You can import and update terminologies from external systems (in SKOS, TBX) that can be deployed into termstores. You can revise terminologies directly and collaboratively in SharePoint. You can create working copies of terminologies that are modified directly in SharePoint by your users before they take effect in the managed metadata. You can create complex models, e.g. medical terminologies, that include poly-hierarchies. Poly-hierarchies are considered in the SharePoint search. Regular users can browse terminologies outside the termstore manager in a convenient terminology browser.
SharePoint Synonym search- and entity extraction-dictionary are generated from the termstore.
GRASP is the term store management tool!
More info about GRASP: http://www.diqa-pm.de/en/Professional_terminology_management_in_SharePoint
More info about DIQA: http://www.diqa-pm.de/en/About_DIQA
Return on Investment:
GRASP is a standard product that requires no customization or project effort. It is deployed easily on your SharePoint farm and immediately reduces the time needed to build terminologies. Existing terminologies in Excel-sheets can be migrated with minimal effort.

How google is using linked data today and vision for tomorrowVasu Jain
In this presentation, I will discuss how modern search engines, such as Google, make use of Linked Data spread inWeb pages for displaying Rich Snippets. Also i will present an example of the technology and analyze its current uptake.
Then i sketched some ideas on how Rich Snippets could be extended in the future, in particular for multimedia documents.

Applications need data, but the legacy approach of n-tiered application architecture doesn’t solve for today’s challenges. Developers aren’t empowered to build and iterate their code quickly without lengthy review processes from other teams. New data sources cannot be quickly adopted into application development cycles, and developers are not able to control their own requirements when it comes to data platforms.
Part of the challenge here is the existing relationship between two groups: developers and DBAs. Developers are trying to go faster, automating build/test/release cycles with CI/CD, and thrive on the autonomy provided by microservices architectures. DBAs are stewards of data protection, governance, and security. Both of these groups are critically important to running data platforms, but many organizations deal with high friction between these teams. As a result, applications get to market more slowly, and it takes longer for customers to see value.
What if we changed the orientation between developers and DBAs? What if developers consumed data products from data teams? In this session, Pivotal’s Dormain Drewitz and Solstice’s Mike Koleno will speak about:
- Product mindset and how balanced teams can reduce internal friction
- Creating data as a product to align with cloud-native application architectures, like microservices and serverless
- Getting started bringing lean principles into your data organization
- Balancing data usability with data protection, governance, and security

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
A tale of scale & speed: How the US Navy is enabling software delivery from l...sonjaschweigert1
Rapid and secure feature delivery is a goal across every application team and every branch of the DoD. The Navy’s DevSecOps platform, Party Barge, has achieved:
- Reduction in onboarding time from 5 weeks to 1 day
- Improved developer experience and productivity through actionable findings and reduction of false positives
- Maintenance of superior security standards and inherent policy enforcement with Authorization to Operate (ATO)
Development teams can ship efficiently and ensure applications are cyber ready for Navy Authorizing Officials (AOs). In this webinar, Sigma Defense and Anchore will give attendees a look behind the scenes and demo secure pipeline automation and security artifacts that speed up application ATO and time to production.
We will cover:
- How to remove silos in DevSecOps
- How to build efficient development pipeline roles and component templates
- How to deliver security artifacts that matter for ATO’s (SBOMs, vulnerability reports, and policy evidence)
- How to streamline operations with automated policy checks on container images

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
