This document discusses using Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) to convert a printed historical encyclopedia about Vienna into a wiki with over 36,000 articles, 3,800 images, and open semantic data. SMW allows the wiki to store facts and metadata that can be exported as open data. The document also describes how SMW facilitates internal data monitoring and cataloguing by different departments to identify datasets for potential publication as open data. SMW produces open data by design using semantic web standards and can help organizations manage processes for identifying, describing, and rating datasets.
