Harnessing Web Page Directories for Large-Scale Classification of Tweets
Classification is paramount for an optimal processing of tweets, albeit performance of classifiers is hindered by the need of large sets of training data to encompass the diversity of con- tents one can find on Twitter. In this paper, Arkaitz Zubiaga and Heng Ji introduces an inexpensive way of labeling large sets of tweets, which can be easily regenerated or updated when needed. We use human-edited web page directories to infer categories from URLs contained in tweets. By experimenting with a large set of more than 5 million tweets categorized accordingly, we show that our proposed model for tweet classification can achieve 82% in accuracy, performing only 12.2% worse than for web page classification. This document presents a two-step approach for classifying tweets through a semantic transform based on Wikipedia. In step one, candidate Wikipedia pages are identified for each tweet based on word overlap. In step two, the distance between tweets is calculated based on the distances between the corresponding Wikipedia pages identified in step one. This two-step approach leverages Wikipedia as an external source of context to classify tweets based on their semantic relationships rather than surface level similarities.

Tweets Classification
This document describes a project that classifies tweets into different categories using support vector machines (SVMs). It extracts tweets, pre-processes the data to structure it, then chooses features like hashtags and word counts to use in the SVM classifier. Privacy and Security in Online Social Media : Trust and Credebillity on OSM

There are many things we could learn from these thoughts if we could figure out a way to digest this gigantic dataset. Visualization is one of the many ways to extract information from these Tweets. In this presentation, I will talk about several visualizations based on Tweets, as well as share experiences and challenges from working with Tweet data.
2022-11, AACL, Named Entity Recognition in Twitter: A Dataset and Analysis on...
Recent progress in language model pre-training has led to important improvements in Named Entity Recognition (NER). Nonetheless, this progress has been mainly tested in well-formatted documents such as news, Wikipedia, or scientific articles. In social media the landscape is different, in which it adds another layer of complexity due to its noisy and dynamic nature. In this paper, we focus on NER in Twitter, one of the largest social media platforms, and construct a new NER dataset, TweetNER7, which contains seven entity types annotated over 11,382 tweets from September 2019 to August 2021. The dataset was constructed by carefully distributing the tweets over time and taking representative trends as a basis. Along with the dataset, we provide a set of language model baselines and perform an analysis on the language model performance on the task, especially analyzing the impact of different time periods. In particular, we focus on three important temporal aspects in our analysis: short-term degradation of NER models over time, strategies to fine-tune a language model over different periods, and self-labeling as an alternative to lack of recently-labeled data. Esta sessão vai fazer uma exploração tecnológica bem-humorada de feeds de threat intelligence abertos e comerciais que têm sido tratados pelo mercado de segurança como a nova panacéia para resolver os desafios de monitoramento e resposta a incidentes. Mesmo que nem todo o mercado de threat intelligence possa ser reduzido a feeds de indicadores, eles têm atraído atenção suficiente do mercado para merecer uma análise científica e factual para que os tomadores de decisão possam maximizar os resultados obtidos com os dados disponíveis.
Nos últimos 18 meses, a Niddel vem coletando indicadores de threat intelligence de múltiplas fontes, visando entender o ecossistema e desenvolver métricas de eficiência e qualidade para avaliar os diferentes feeds. Serão apresentadas análises factuais e baseadas em dados do viés estatístico, sobreposição, representatividade, idade de indicadores e unicidade entre diferentes feeds. Todos os dados utilizados será publicado e o código para geração dos gráficos está disponível em projetos open source chamados Combine e TIQ-Test. Estas são as mesmas técnicas e análises por trás da contribuição da Niddel no Verizon Data Breach Incident Report (DBIR) de 2015, um dos mais respeitados relatórios de segurança da informação do mundo.

Mobile devices, sensors and GPS are driving the demand to handle big data in both batch and real time. This presentation discusses how we used complex event processing (CEP) and MapReduce based technologies to track and process data from a soccer match as part of the annual DEBS event processing challenge. In 2013, the challenge included a data set generated by a real soccer match in which sensors were placed in the soccer ball and players’ shoes. This session will review how we used CEP to implement DESB challenge and achieved throughput in excess of 100,000 events/sec. It also will examine how we extended the solution to conduct batch processing using business activity monitoring (BAM) using the same framework, enabling users to obtain both instant analytics as well as more detailed batch processing based results.

Surfacing Real-World Event Content on Twitter
The document describes a method for identifying real-world events from Twitter data in real-time using an unsupervised machine learning approach. Tweets are clustered based on textual similarity and metadata like time and location. Cluster-level features are then extracted and used to train a classifier to identify event clusters. Key steps include content representation, incremental clustering of tweets, feature extraction from clusters, building an event classifier, and selecting tweets to display for each identified event. The goal is to surface real-world event content from Twitter in an unsupervised and automated fashion.

EventSense: Capturing the Pulse of Large-scale Events by Mining Social Media ...
This document describes the EventSense framework for analyzing large-scale events by mining social media streams. The framework extracts entities of interest from messages using TF-IDF vectors and cosine similarity. It detects topics in event messages using clustering and sentiment analysis using naive Bayes classifiers. The framework was applied to a film festival, extracting 834 topics from tweets and analyzing sentiment with 75% accuracy for English. Aggregation provided insights like more popular films having higher ratings and more tweets/bookmarks. Future work includes applying the framework to more events and data sources.

Analysis of a State Machine-based Interactive Dialogue Management System
This document analyzes a state machine-based dialogue management system for a conversational agent. It discusses using state machines to control conversation flow, with a sports-focused database to enable real-time fact-based discussions. Quantitative analysis showed updates to the sports component's database and conversation logic correlated with higher user ratings, while bugs correlated with lower ratings. Qualitative analysis found errors occurred from uncovered topics, bugs, and ignoring user responses. The study concludes associating state machines with databases can improve dialogue quality but requires effort, while open-domain question answering is not suitable due to latency issues.

Tracking a soccer game with Big Data
Mobile devices, sensors and GPS are driving the demand to handle big data in both batch and real time. This presentation discusses how we used complex event processing (CEP) and MapReduce based technologies to track and process data from a soccer match as part of the annual DEBS event processing challenge. In 2013, the challenge included a data set generated by a real soccer match in which sensors were placed in the soccer ball and players’ shoes. This session will review how we used CEP to implement DESB challenge and achieved throughput in excess of 100,000 events/sec. It also will examine how we extended the solution to conduct batch processing using business activity monitoring (BAM) using the same framework, enabling users to obtain both instant analytics as well as more detailed batch processing based results.
Surfacing Real-World Event Content on Twitter
The document describes a method for identifying real-world events from Twitter data in real-time using an unsupervised machine learning approach. Tweets are clustered based on textual similarity and metadata like time and location. Cluster-level features are then extracted and used to train a classifier to identify event clusters. Key steps include content representation, incremental clustering of tweets, feature extraction from clusters, building an event classifier, and selecting tweets to display for each identified event. The goal is to surface real-world event content from Twitter in an unsupervised and automated fashion.
What to expect when you are visualizing
In this talk, I reflect on the tasks commonly involved in crafting visualizations and show examples of different applications of information/data visualization. Along this ride I will share my workflow, point out the common pitfalls and provide recommendations.

EventSense: Capturing the Pulse of Large-scale Events by Mining Social Media ...
This document describes the EventSense framework for analyzing large-scale events by mining social media streams. The framework extracts entities of interest from messages using TF-IDF vectors and cosine similarity. It detects topics in event messages using clustering and sentiment analysis using naive Bayes classifiers. The framework was applied to a film festival, extracting 834 topics from tweets and analyzing sentiment with 75% accuracy for English. Aggregation provided insights like more popular films having higher ratings and more tweets/bookmarks. Future work includes applying the framework to more events and data sources.

Analysis of a State Machine-based Interactive Dialogue Management System
This document analyzes a state machine-based dialogue management system for a conversational agent. It discusses using state machines to control conversation flow, with a sports-focused database to enable real-time fact-based discussions. Quantitative analysis showed updates to the sports component's database and conversation logic correlated with higher user ratings, while bugs correlated with lower ratings. Qualitative analysis found errors occurred from uncovered topics, bugs, and ignoring user responses. The study concludes associating state machines with databases can improve dialogue quality but requires effort, while open-domain question answering is not suitable due to latency issues.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Artificial Intelligence for XMLDevelopment
