The ‘U’ rating stands for ‘Universal’ this is a rating for all
people over the age of 4. Films that are rated ‘U’ have
no/very little conflict. In these films the use of bad language
is very subtle, using words such as ‘damn‘ and ‘hell’ with the
very occasional use of ‘bloody’ and ‘bugger’. Kissing and
cuddling is allowed to be shown with mild sexual
 references.

‘PG’ stands for parental guidance and is for general
viewing. The films are not made with a younger audience
in mind. These films include slight bad language such
‘shit’ and ‘son of a bitch’ however very limited use of these
words/ phrases. If a child will not understand the sexual
reference it can be included in a PG rated film.

12A means that anyone aged 12 or over can go and
see the film unaccompanied. The BBFC say the
words such as ‘fuck’ may be used however they
need to be very infrequently. In 12 rated films an
containverbal sex references should not go beyond
what is suitable for young teenagers.

In a 15 rated film no theme is unacceptable however
items such as openly showed brutal murder isn’t
allowed whereas action scenes and gun related
murders are allowed to be shown. Brief sexual
activity is allowed and mild drug taking. Racial
 discrimination is occasionally involved.

Films rated 18 are for adults. No one under 18 is
allowed to see an 18 film at the cinema or buy/rent
an 18 rated DVD. No 18 rated works are suitable for
children. In 18 movies open violent brutal murder
and real open sex scenes. The use of any language is
permitted. Almost all themes are permitted.
Our production rating:
For the opening sequence we are going to create will be rated a 15 as we are
planning to have suggestive violence and also images of dead people and
weaponry however none of the violence will be shown, they may be use of bad
language although it will be very mild. The lighting will be rather dark and
suggestive that bad things are going to happen. These are the main reasons why
we have decided that our production sequence is going to be rated a 15 as it is
strongly dark natured.
