HAVE A CLEAR IDEA OF WHAT YOU WANT TO COMPOSE
 The kind of song
 What is the song about
 To Whom you are composing
 What event
1
LOOK FOR INSPIRATION
 Most effective way to start a song.
 Determines the theme of the song.
 Can be found anywhere, and in everything.
2
CREATE A MELODY  PARTS OF THE SONG
 VERSE: main part of the song, same melody but
different text, leads to the chorus.
 CHORUS: powerful, usually contains the title and hook,
repeats with minimal or no changes.
 BRIDGE: gravitate to the chorus, with tension, short
3
A hook is the capstone of a well-crafted song. It's part
melody, part lyric, and most likely it's both. It's usually the
title of the song, repeating throughout the chorus and sitting
in the most prominent positions of the first or last line.
CREATE A MELODY
 Carries the emotion of the song, must be done with care.
 Higher notes tend to have more emotions.
 Same notes are static and calm.
 Stepwise is moving, relaxed.
 Leap is moving, tension.

Editor's Notes

  1. SPRING: seedtime; fountain FALL: drop, WINTER: declining; ending SUMMER: warmth, heat ECCLESIASTES 3:1 – for everything there is a season
  2. The seasons of our lives Come and go No order it seems Spring the smile of health and life Fall an upward climb to beauty Winter the barren moments of strife Summer the heat of stress so sultry A season be long or short Must come and go Se we can live and grow.
  3. CRISIS AND ADVERSITY OUTLOOK: Attitude, position, mindset, point of view ADVERSITY (CRISIS): is characterized as a circumstance checked by incident, misfortune, wretchedness CRISIS & ADVERSITY – SONG WRITING & COMPOSITION
  4. Trust God Surround yourself with right people Positive Mindset
  5. Cross Reference: Matthew 12:33
  6. HAVE A CLEAR IDEA - to whom you are composing? For God (Talking to God) – Oh I want to know your more deep within my soul I want to know you For the congregation (Talking to the congregation) – Stand up, Stand up Talking with the congregation (Side by Side we stand) To yourself, expressing your sentiments, blurting out your happiness or joy - Little flowers never worry. . .
  7. STANZA: is a group of lines in a poem. It is often called a “VERSE” What is a hook in a song? A hook is the capstone of a well-crafted song. It's part melody, part lyric, and most likely it's both. It's usually the title of the song, repeating throughout the chorus and sitting in the most prominent positions of the first or last line. capstone: a stone fixed on top of something, typically a wall. hook: fastened
  8. Stepwise motion is what makes melodies more easily singable, while leaps often grab listener interest.  Great melodies make good use of stepwise motion, which means that the tune moves from one note to the one next to it (a C moving to a D, for example), mixed in with occasional leaps. The melodic leap, particularly the upward-moving one, has a lot of power, and can pull a listener in and make a melody suddenly come alive. Upward leaps are exciting, and if they are used sparingly they can be very distinctive, hooky moments that make listeners want to keep coming back.
  9. Harmony, in music, the sound of two or more notes heard simultaneously. In practice, this broad definition can also include some instances of notes sounded one after the other.
  10. Rhythm is the pattern of sound, silence, and emphasis in a song. In music theory, rhythm refers to the recurrence of notes and rests (silences) in time. The simplest definition for what is rhythm in music is – the arrangement of notes of different lengths.
