The document summarizes interviews from a documentary about Cardinal Newman Catholic School. In the first interview, the head teacher says the school has changed both positively and negatively over the years. She believes the introduction of blazers had a positive impact. In a second interview, students say that while some teachers care about them, others are careless, and policies around bullying are not effectively enforced. A teacher interviewed says classes are too large and they need more support staff. The PE teacher enjoys his job but acknowledges other teachers have more difficulty with behavior in classrooms. In a concluding interview, the head teacher encourages families to consider Cardinal Newman and says it offers a community environment to support students.
2. The head teacher of Cardinal Newman catholic school appears twice in my documentary on separate occasions. 2
interviews take place in which the honest and serious questions are asked, what is her responses:
Narrator/interviewer- There is no doubt that during recent years Cardinal Newman Secondary
school has changed, do you think in a positive way or a negative way?
Head teacher- I would say that Newman has changed, as does every school. Every school has
its positives and negatives. I believe that a few years ago the blazers were introduced that has
definitely had a positive impact as our students look fabulous day by day.
Narrator/interviewer- How about the recent Ofsted report? A satisfactory originally, would you
say that this school is satisfactory?
Head teacher- Certainly not, hence why we wasted no time in having Ofsted returned to our
school to re evaluate and I would say we redeemed ourselves.
3. This school has thousands of excellent students for numerous, different reasons. Some are praised
for positive behaviour and others are praised for un acceptable behaviour which we as a school
refuse to tolerate therefore this behaviour will consequence with the correct punishments. You
will find this any school in Coventry and across the UK does not matter where you investigate.

4. This is shot 3 where the interviewer/narrator searches for the students opinions on the school.
Narrator/interviewer- If use answer honestly, what do use like about this school?
Pupils- Some of the teachers are nice, they care about you, what you get up to, assure that
you safe and learning.
Narrator/interviewer- Would you say that this is most of the teachers or just some?
Pupils- No definitely just some of them, others are careless.
Narrator/interviewer- How about the deputy/assistant heads, the head teacher, do you like
them?
Pupils- Well they are ok sometimes but they try to enforce various policies and rules and
they just do not work.
Narrator/interviewer- Like what?
Pupils- They make out that they care about students that suffer about with bullys and they
keep bringing up safe guarding but nothing ever happens to those that continue to act
poorly.
5. Narrator/interviewer- Do you feel safe in this school?
Pupils- I think that we are just used to how things are in this school now, you know where to go
and where not to go, what to do and what not to do to stay out of older pupils way.

6. After the teacher has taught what it seems to be a tough class, she is then asked of her overall
experiences in the school?
Narrator/interviewer- Do you enjoy working here?
Teacher- I did when I first joined, well lets just say you don’t get paid enough for this job!
Narrator/interviewer- Is every class like the one you just taught?
Teacher- Not every class! Sometimes I have a teaching assistant to help ,e with rather large
classes but I used to have an assistant for every lesson which is necessary. It is hard for one
teacher to see to every students needs. So I think that the students just get bored of not being
listened to so 9 times out of 10 its not their fault.
Narrator/interviewer- Who’s fault would you say it is then?
Teacher- Lets just say we need more help, more assistance so that we can teach classes
sufficiently. I think every teacher would agree with me.
7. After experiencing the physical education in the school, it is only fair to hear from the P.E teacher himself to monitor
his views.
PE teacher- I do enjoy my job, I love what I do and hope to continue doing this role.
Narrator/interviewer- Do you wish to continue and develop your career at Cardinal Newman or
else where?
PE teacher- Well I am comfortable in this job currently however I know I will move eventually.
Narrator/interviewer- What do you think of the student here at Cardinal Newman School?
PE teacher- Well of course you come across you well behaved and your poorly behaved
students, you tend to know who to look out for. Mainly up here in the sports hall or when
pursuing out door activities in the courts or up on the fields, we don’t have to put up with any
poor behaviour because they are here to learn new skills as well as let off steam in a proactive
way. But I have heard stories from other teachers and what they are forced with day by day in
a class room, I could not do what they do, I lack the patience and the tolerance.
8. This second interview with the head teacher is towards the end of the documentary, this is an effective
way to almost end with the documentary because the head teacher is the face of the school and it is
important that viewers take what she has to say on board.
Narrator/interviewer- What would you say to the local communality that are considering other
surrounding secondary schools?
Head teacher- Do not rule out Cardinal Newman secondary school! Each of them are entitled to look
around and find the right school that suits them, however this has a long history record of being a
brilliant school on several grounds. That cannot go un recognised, we are not just a school we are a
community who look out for each other students and staff. We meet each others needs and assist them to
with stain an easy and straight forward successful life during their time at Cardinal Newman secondary
school. We hope to gain many more students into our large family in the near and far future.
