1) Emma and James were in a relationship but Emma chose to move to America for her career, hurting James in the process.
2) Years later, Emma has regrets about leaving James and is shown at different times missing him and thinking about their relationship.
3) James struggles after the breakup, drinking heavily and trying to move on.
4) The documentary flashes between Emma and James' lives after the split, implying they still have feelings for each other, and leaves their relationship status ambiguous at the end.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

INT. CHURCH – DAY
VOICE OVER (EMMA)
Can a once in a lifetime love find a second chance?
Low-key lighting. JAMES’ hand is shown as he tosses the coin
into the air, located near the glass pane window of the
church. Slow motion shows the coin falling to the floor. The
noise of the coin echoes as it hits the floor. Emma is shows
to walk away down the isle of the church in red heels.
EXT. PARK – EVENING
EMMA and JAMES are sat on park bench in the late evening.
VOICE OVER
Because if I’d have known what I do now, would I ever have let
it go?
JAMES
(Tucks EMMA’S hair behind her ears)
I am so glad I met you.
As the scene continues to fast forward into the evening when
the sun sets. EMMA’s laughing echoes and they both appear
content in each other’s company. EMMA has her feet tucked up
onto the bench and JAMES has his arm wrapped around her.
INT. HOUSE PARTY – EVENING
EMMA and JAMES are dancing together and are having drinks with
their friends. The music is loud and EMMA’s phone starts to
ring.
EMMA
Oh my god, yes thank you... thank you... I’ll be in touch
EMMA goes back into the room and pretends nothing has
happened.
VOICE OVER (EMMA)
2. Would you pass up on a once in a lifetime chance for love?
Low key lighting of the street lights shows EMMA and JAMES
walking hand in hand down the street. They are dressed in
winter coats and EMMA stops and turns to JAMES.
No dialogue is heard; JAMES is shocked and pulls his hands
away from her. He appears to shout but you cannot hear what he
is saying, he appears very distressed. The screen goes black
and the voice over plays.
VOICE OVER (EMMA)
But I made a choice.
INT. EMMA’S BEDROOM – DAY
EMMA is packing her stuff to leave for America, she is crying
and sits down on the bed. Everything in the room is strewn all
over the place.
EXT: TOWN – NIGHT
JAMES is out with his friends he is trying to fit back into a
bachelor lifestyle. He is drinking heavily.
VOICE OVER
And if I’d known how much I hurt you, would I have walked away
so easily?
INT. AIRPORT LIFT – DAY
EMMA is leaving the country, she is crying in the lift she
lugs her case into the lift and stands looking as if she is
waiting for JAMES to come and get her. An onlooker sees her
looking at a photo of herself and JAMES on her phone with a
friend’s baby.
STRANGER IN THE ELEVATOR
You have a beautiful family (She smiles at EMMA)
INT. OFFICE – DAY
EMMA is in her new office, lecturing her staff. She looks
professional stood next to a projector. She introduces her
ideas.
INT. OFFICE – DAY
3. JAMES is sat in his office. His assistant enters with a cup of
coffee, she leans over him and laces the coffee down in front
of him. She squeezes his shoulder in an attempt to comfort
him.
ASSISTANT
It gets better. Trust me.
INT. PUB – EVENING
JAMES is taking shots off the bar. His friends are shouting in
encouragement but no sound is heard just background music.
INT. HOUSE – EVENING
EMMA is sat on her sofa with her feet up and drinking a glass
of red wine. She is reading a magazine.
VOICEOVER (EMMA)
But I know we’re in different places right now.
INT. BATHROOM – NIGHT
JAMES is slumped up against the wall in his bathroom after a
long night out. He is drunk and closely sat to the toilet.
INT. HOUSE – NIGHT
EMMA is returning emails on her laptop, she yawns.
INT. HOUSE (SOFA) – EVENING
EMMA and JAMES are sat together on a sofa. JAMES as his hands
on EMMA’S head as if he is reassuring her. They look at ease
in each other’s company. EMMA smiles at JAMES.
EXT. CLUB – NIGHT
EMMA and JAMES are running out of a building at night laughing
together. EMMA is following closely behind as JAMES holds her
hand pulling her along. They are dressed in party clothes and
continuously look behind them.
JAMES
(Laughing) Hurry up, come on EM!
EXT. STREET – DAYTIME
4. EMMA is walking down the street and drops her bag. A good
looking gentleman stops to help her. Their eyes meet and she
brushes it off before continuing down the road and looks back
to see him.
EMMA
Oh god, I’m so sorry. Thank you!
INT. HOUSE – EVENING
Two hands toast wine glasses. The girl has long red painted
nails and an engagement ring on. The noise of the glasses
echoes.
EXT. DOOR STEP – DAYTIME
The coin is tossed into the air and onto the floor where a
hand picks it up. The coin is picked up on the front step of
the door. The hand is shown to close the coin as if they are
reclaiming it as opposed to walking away again.
VOICE OVER (EMMA)
No matter where we are, we’ll find a way back.
