Liturgy Universal Day of Prayer for Students 2017可樂 陳
WSCF每年都會舉辦世界學生祈禱日,係一個正式崇拜,每年由唔同的組織擔大旗寫禮儀,亦都有唔同主題。舊年係英國SCM,今年就係WSCF-AP做,主題係Identity, Diversity & Dialogue (IDD): Affirming the Image of God and Reclaiming the Wholeness of Life for All。SCMHK係佢地寫禮文的外判,入面的intercession prayer係我地寫的。

12. A Tired but Joyful Trip in Manila
Four SCM-HK members, including me, went to Manila to
participate in Human Rights Workshop and the Asia-Pacific Student
and Youth Gathering (ASYG) from August 24 to September 5, 2013.
“Education is human rights!” - the theme of this year ‘Human Rights
Justice & Peace Workshop’ organized by World Student Christian
Federation-Asia Pacific (WSCF-AP) in Manila, focusing on the issue of
commercialization of education in the world. The workshop aims to
reclaim rights to education for all, so as to tackle unfair competition
between rich and poor students or other serious problems caused
by commercialized education. To my shock, l realized that the
phenomenon of commercialized education is quite common, not only in
Hong Kong but also in other regions of Asia-Pacific after the “education
situations of your own region” sharing from other participants. They
have mentioned several problems they are facing in their own countries.
For instance, Government of the Philippines is known for serious
corruption problem. Schools/Colleagues have taken the main part
from government fund for their personal usage and put little resources
into academic research, finally lead to degrading academic quality.
Also, shortage in school rooms and underfunding from government
are shown that Philippine government has to bear big responsibility
of educational problem. Government in Philippine spent only 3.3% of
its expenditure on education compared to 7.4% from Malaysia and 4%
from Thailand.“Education as business” is the main orientation viewed by
Philippine government. Government is always finding ways to remove
its responsibility to other stakeholders, such as non-funding school, in
education aspect. All in all, education, under beautifully sounding slogan

13. “your education is our future”, equals only to commerce and price.
This was my first time to go aboard participating on human
rights workshops, and l was so lucky to learn a lot from the sharing
on education situations of the Philippines and other countries in
Asia-Pacific. The opportunity to join community exposure and
demonstration match outside the University of the Philippines is
virtually priceless. The events teach me the views how local people
considering their education system, their stories of struggle and
resistance to autarchic power. I was touched by their braving actions
on fighting the rights on education and house. Their actions are fight
for humanity and they believe that education should be used to seek
for humanity as Paulo Freire said “ Education is a cultural action of
freedom!” (Paulo Freire, Cultural Action for Freedom, 1970)
In ASYG event, l went to Muslim and Migrants community to stay
one night with the local. This is definitely the poorest place l have been
visited. However, people showed me their biggest smile and generous
hospitality. Their most brilliant smile has marked on my heart even
after l came back to Hong Kong. I really feel thankful to their generous
hospitality of cooking breakfast/dinner to me and leaving me a bed to
take rest. All of these are valuable experiences despite of the harsh
schedule host by organizers.
