The European Researchers' Night (NIGHT) is a
European wide public and media event to promote
what researchers do for society and its influence on
citizens' daily life, inspiring young people to take up
a career on research.
Where fun meets science!

NIGHT Goals:
Raise awareness among society
of the importance of research and research projects
for their daily lives.
Dispel stereotypes around researchers by them
personally showing their work openly and in
practical terms.
Stress the importance of increasing the number of
researchers in Europe for our wellbeing and
prosperity in the coming decades.

NIGHT Goals:
Entertain through a myriad
of science dissemination
activities around Europe and beyond.
Give a special focus on pupils and students.
Promote the European dimension and gender
balance in research and innovation.
Involve researchers funded by Horizon 2020.

Over 260 main cities in almost 30 countries (29),
covered around Europe including associated
events in the 2015 edition
More than 1 million attendees (over 10% of
increase). More than 18.000 researchers
participating (over 18% of increase).

Overall estimated number of people made aware:
110 million against 70 million in 2014: increase by
57 %
Events associated to the NIGHT in 7 countries again
in 2015:
Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark (Faroe Islands),
Italy, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.

Researchers at School and at University

To promote the research careers amongst the
youngsters and, if possible, ameliorate the
knowledge of the STEEM* subjects amongst the
European students.

The MSC fellow will take part in a class course (1 hour and a
half for instance) and will illustrate students about their
experience as researcher and the carrying out of his/her MSC
project in a simple, understandable and dynamic way.
Teachers will coach the fellow and lead the course for this
purpose.
30 minutes: fellow explanation (with the help of the teacher)
60 minutes for questions from the teacher and students
(interaction)

• MSC fellows in the host country of this action
• Thorough knowledge of the language/s of the country
will be necessary
• Good communication skills and/or experience in other
outreach activities
