Missions were sent from Japan to China starting around 607 AD, when Prince Shotoku sent the first three missions, to mix Japanese religion and culture with Chinese influences. This continued until the late 9th century during the Tang dynasty in China, as Japan sought to learn from and integrate aspects of Chinese culture.
