SCHOOL UNIFORMS –
A GOOD IDEA
As their use is steadily
increasing in public schools,
school uniforms promote self
confidence and sense of
belonging, social equalization,
and a sense of safety.
To the right is a chart that
shows people’s views on
school uniforms by region.
SCHOOL
UNIFORMS
• School uniforms have been showed
to boost self confidence in students.
• Students who are wearing uniforms
will always look good; this will make
them feel confident about
themselves
• People who support school uniforms
say that they “boost school pride,
relieve peer pressure, and help
students stay focused on learning”
(Wharton, 2013).
• If students dress similar, they will look
similar. Looking similar will create a
sense of belonging within the school.
SELF
CONFIDENCE
AND A SENSE OF
BELONGING
SOCIAL EQUALIZATION
• School uniforms also help students be more equal.
Since everyone is wearing the same thing, students
will not get made fun of for what they wear. Below I
have included a diagram of how competitiveness
in students decreases with school uniforms.
A SENSE OF SAFETY
• School uniforms create a sense of safety in schools
by
• Making it easier to identify outsiders
• Making it harder for opposing gang members to identify
each other, therefore decreasing gang violence
IN CONCLUSION…
• The debate about school uniforms continues with
passionate disagreement from both sides. While
opponents of school uniforms continue to cite
concerns, the positives of school uniforms
significantly outweigh the negatives
