School uniforms are an added expense for parents and require purchasing a separate set of regular clothes. They also restrict self-expression and individuality in students. While uniforms are intended to reduce bullying, bullying can still occur over other attributes like hairstyles, jewelry, or socioeconomic status. In conclusion, uniforms interfere with student rights and do not effectively address the root causes of bullying.

Uniforms are not cheap!
• Children are constantly growing, so having to buy new
uniforms every year can become very costly.
• Many parents feel the addition of uniforms
to their child's wardrobe is an added
expense to their budget.
• Students will not wear the uniforms
outside of school, so another set of
clothing must be purchased as well.

4. Freedom of Expression is stifled
by School Uniforms
• Requiring students to conform every day in appearance
may deter them from discovering their true individuality.
• Uniforms take away the right of young people to express
their feelings through the clothing that they wear.
• Uniforms do not teach children how to deal with people
who are different then themselves.

• Clothes are not the root cause of bullying and therefore
the bullying will continue, regardless of dress policy.
