Under the guiding light of these commandments the journey
SMS Varanasi began in the year 1995 and since then the
institute has never looked back. It has made consistent
endeavour over the years to prove its national character as a
Centre of Excellence in Management and Computer
Education. SMS, Varanasi has been recognized under section
2(f) & 12(B) of UGC and also ranked amongst the TOP 50
B-Schools by Business India magazine's 'Best B-Schools
Survey' because of its proactive approach and immense
commitment.
Today SMS, Varanasi is running its flagship post graduate
diploma in management (PGDM) programme, approved by
st
AICTE running into its successful 21 year. At the post
graduate level, SMS, Varanasi has equally been running
successfully the Master of Business Administration (MBA)
programme and the Master of Computer Applications (Lateral

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow. Three
undergraduate programmes Bachelor of Business
Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Applications
(BCA) and Bachelor of Commerce (B.com) affiliated to
Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi are other
highlights in the SMS cerebral firmament.
SMS, Varanasi has also established various centers in its
diligent efforts to corroborate its academic excellence which
have been recognized at different industrial and academic
forums. It is worth mentioning that the reach of the Centre
for Spiritualism & Human Enrichment (C-SHE), created with
an objective to create a strong platform for all those who are
interested in contributing towards enriching human lives and
the modern management science through spirituality, is now
truly global. SMS, Varanasi has also pioneered in establishing
the 'Varanasi Management Association' which aims to
crystallize the sublime management knowledge which has
been flowing in Varanasi right from the start of time itself,
and is the basis of the modern management thoughts.
SMS, Varanasi with its modern infrastructure and multi

Dear Sir / Madam,
It is indeed a matter of scholastic pleasure to bring this small
publication to post you with the ambrosial salience of a renowned
seat of learning and research in management and computer areas -
School of Management Sciences, Varanasi. The current positioning
of SMS Varanasi in the high profile bracket of Top 50 B- Schools of
India has certainly brought it a highly acclaimed scholastic
credibility in as much as placing this institution among the few
selected and most sought-after B-Schools of the country. More
sanguinely, the dashing maturity of SMS Varanasi, in terms of
providing a more meaningful context for nurturing academic &
intellectual strivings, vibrant extra-curricular activities, outreach
initiatives and civic engagement coupled with its Journals getting
indexed in International Data-base, Scopus, Elsevier and hosted on
OJAS platform of INFLIBNET (UGC) have been attracting
recognitions at both national and global levels. Let me express my
deep sense of gratitude towards the unwearied cooperation of our
stakeholders in helping SMS develop ideally and taking quantum
jumps one after another.
You will appreciate that a gradually swelling momentum in the
country’s economic texture in the wake of the national vows of
‘Make-in-India’ and ‘Digital India’ is an indication for the growing
corporate visibility in the days ahead. Keeping its role as an active
corporate partner in progress, the academic leadership at SMS
Varanasi has constantly remained proactive in revisiting both the
text and context of the deliverables to ensure a better compatibility
to the current corporate requirements. The meticulous exercise thus
brings focus on skills like critical thinking and global agility,
communication & personality development, emotional intelligence,
business analytics, digital marketing, global economic & political
scenario, leadership qualities, business ethics & etiquettes, pertinent
managerial inputs from the ancient Indian wisdom, and many more
without compromising on technical knowledge so as to make our
students fully prepared to address to the current and upcoming job
environments.
A remarkable blending of arrogantly beautiful physical
infrastructure, compounded with an ebullient & dedicated team of
the seasoned & brilliant faculty of SMS passionately nurture the
talents of our students in order to enable them to communicate
with the plural needs and ethos of the corporate world effectively.
This has been a major factor behind SMS always scripting a
wonderful track of fabulous quality placements. Moreover, the
unwavering quest of SMS to redefine the canon of excellence is a
continuous process, and we are sure of touching the apotheosis in
this regard by the onerous efforts of SMS-team, endowed with a
burgeoning reliance of our stakeholders and the incessant blessings
of the Almighty.

aranasi, also called Kashi or Banaras, is
Vactually the Land of Eternity between the
rivers Varuna and Assi and has been
acclaimed to be one of the noblest places in not
only India, but the whole of the world.
Situated on the banks of the holy Ganga, where
the pious river takes a crescent sweep towards
the North, Varanasi rightly entails the spring of
the outstanding human values, the climax in
aesthetics, and the aristocracy of the rich Indian
ethos. This City of Light has been the permanent
home of Lord Vishwanath, who is believed to
keep the holy city alive on his Trident even when
the whole world may be doomed in the grip of
so called 'pralaya'. That is why; this celestial
place, decorated with temples and shrines of so
many deities located in the vicinity of colourful
ghats on the banks of Ganga, facilitates the
gurus to gather their disciples, encourages yogis
to practice their yogas and ascetics, and equally
invites the hermits of various religions and sects
for sermonizing their teachings.
Varanasi has further been a confluence of the
golden streams of thought of Hinduism,
Buddhism, Jainism, Vaishnavism and Vedic
philosophy since the times immemorial. Lord
Buddha, the 'Awakened One', preferred Kashi for
delivering his maiden sermons on the 'Eight-
Fold Noble Path' and 'Dharmachakra' at Sarnath.
Kabir too got his enlightenment on the steep
stairs of the Ghats of Kashi and Tulsi created his
monumental and epoch making contributions
like Ramacharit Manas & Vinaya Patrika on the
holy banks of Ganga. It is on account of the
unique sanctity of this place that Pandit Madan
Mohan Malaviya chose Banaras for establishing
the well-known 'Banaras Hindu University' the
singular seat of 'All Learning of the World'.
Such is the magnanimity of Varanasi, where the
School of Management Sciences has been set up
with the objective of training our young
generation in a true cosmopolitan environment
that could cater to the plural and versatile
needs. Varanasi is certainly an attractive and
thriving city to live and to study. With its sacred
character and glorious heritage this holy city
offers everything from the excitement of a big
city to the eternal peace and tranquility.
VARANASITHE OLDEST CITY OF THE WORLD
BANARAS IS OLDER THAN HISTORY,
OLDER THAN TRADITION OLDER
EVEN THAN LEGEND, AND LOOKS
TWICE AS OLD AS ALL OF THEM
PUT TOGETHER.“- Mark Twain

ACADEMIC APPRAISAL OF
PGDM POGRAMME
The PGDM Programme comprises of four semesters which follow a Choice Based Credit System.
The first two semesters primarily focus on compulsory courses covering foundation and various
functional areas of management. Semesters third and fourth include integrative courses in
management and electives from various areas of specialization. The student undertakes summer
project study during the vacation period between the 2nd and 3rd semesters.
ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT
Assessment in the programme is of an ongoing and continuous nature. It
emphasises development of personal and professional competence as well as
gaining of business knowledge and skills. Students therefore, need to perform
consistently at high academic levels. They are expected to work under
considerable pressure, as the programmes are highly demanding in both their
requirement of time and quality of output. Through the Performance Appraisal
system of the Institute, it is ensured that the students will be capable of
performing with a very high level of efficiency and cater suitably to the needs of
industry. The evaluation system ensures that students develop an aptitude for
working in challenging conditions. This holistic evaluation system enables the
students to monitor their performance through their participation in a variety of
learning activities such as class participation, case presentations, assignments,
quizzes, term papers, mid-term and end-term examinations and general conduct
and behaviour in the course of their stay at the Institute.
SUMMER INTERNSHIP
Students are required to take summer internship for two months in reputed
companies’ pan India after completion of the 1st year of the PGDM programme.
The objective is to transfer the skills and theory learned in the first year into the
real world of the corporate sector. Summer internships offer the important
opportunity to work closely with professionals, experience responsibility in the
real world scenario and to develop knowledge, competencies, and experience
related directly to a student’s career goals.
COURSE OF INDEPENDENT STUDIES
The Course of Independent Study gives the PGDM students the freedom to go
beyond the syllabus and explore a topic of their interest in depth. This study
makes an independent contribution to the field. It allows the students to
demonstrate their ability to be self directed and uninstructed. They have the
freedom to define not just the topic of their study, but form of the final output
and the parameters for evaluation, along with their faculty mentor. While the
domains may differ, each independent study demands the same degree of rigor
in conceptualizing and execution. This opens up possibilities for the students to
be creative.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance in all academic and institutional activities is compulsory. Those
students who fail to meet attendance requirement of 75% in a course will not be
eligible to appear in the end semester examinations.
AWARD OF POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA

  • 13. aranasi, also called Kashi or Banaras, is Vactually the Land of Eternity between the rivers Varuna and Assi and has been acclaimed to be one of the noblest places in not only India, but the whole of the world. Situated on the banks of the holy Ganga, where the pious river takes a crescent sweep towards the North, Varanasi rightly entails the spring of the outstanding human values, the climax in aesthetics, and the aristocracy of the rich Indian ethos. This City of Light has been the permanent home of Lord Vishwanath, who is believed to keep the holy city alive on his Trident even when the whole world may be doomed in the grip of so called 'pralaya'. That is why; this celestial place, decorated with temples and shrines of so many deities located in the vicinity of colourful ghats on the banks of Ganga, facilitates the gurus to gather their disciples, encourages yogis to practice their yogas and ascetics, and equally invites the hermits of various religions and sects for sermonizing their teachings. Varanasi has further been a confluence of the golden streams of thought of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Vaishnavism and Vedic philosophy since the times immemorial. Lord Buddha, the 'Awakened One', preferred Kashi for delivering his maiden sermons on the 'Eight- Fold Noble Path' and 'Dharmachakra' at Sarnath. Kabir too got his enlightenment on the steep stairs of the Ghats of Kashi and Tulsi created his monumental and epoch making contributions like Ramacharit Manas & Vinaya Patrika on the holy banks of Ganga. It is on account of the unique sanctity of this place that Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya chose Banaras for establishing the well-known 'Banaras Hindu University' the singular seat of 'All Learning of the World'. Such is the magnanimity of Varanasi, where the School of Management Sciences has been set up with the objective of training our young generation in a true cosmopolitan environment that could cater to the plural and versatile needs. Varanasi is certainly an attractive and thriving city to live and to study. With its sacred character and glorious heritage this holy city offers everything from the excitement of a big city to the eternal peace and tranquility. VARANASITHE OLDEST CITY OF THE WORLD BANARAS IS OLDER THAN HISTORY, OLDER THAN TRADITION OLDER EVEN THAN LEGEND, AND LOOKS TWICE AS OLD AS ALL OF THEM PUT TOGETHER.“- Mark Twain www.smsvaranasi.com 09
