2. INTRODUCTION
School is one of the social institution where the students
learn many things that help them to grow into a person with
intellectual abilities, positive attitude, matured behavior and
responsible citizen.

3. DEFINITION
Definition of Health;
School health refers to a state of complete
physical, mental, social and spiritual wellbeing
and not merely the absence of disease.

4. DEFINITION OF
SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICES
School health services refers to need based
comprehensive service rendered to pupils, teachers
and other personal in the school to promote protect
their health prevent and control disease and maintain
their health.

5. MILESTONES OF
SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICES
●1909 - Medical examination conducted for the first time for school
children in Baroda City.
● 1946 - Bhore committee report had revealed the non existence and
under developed state of school health services.
1953 - secondary education committee suggested on Medical
examination and school feeding programs.
● 1960 - Government of India had appointed a committee under the chairmanship
of
Smt. Renuka Roy to assess the status of school and to recommend
strategies to improve.

6. ● 1961 - The above committee submitted report with its
recommendations .
>Five year plans : Following the committee recommendations many
state governments came forward to implement feeding
programs and other services.
>With the efforts school health services are still in infancy level only.
● 1977 - Centrally sponsored National school health scheme was started.

7. ● 1981 - A task force was established by ministry of health and
family welfare to study the progress of school health program
functioning in various states of the country.
● 1989 - Central health education Bureau Directorate General of
health services had launched an intensive school health education
project.

8. OBJECTIVES

● To maintain and protect health.
● To prevent disease.
● To promote early diagnosis, treatment and follow up.
● To refer cases when needed.
● To create health awareness among children.
● To provide safe and healthful environment.
