Our school celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. This year, the school began renovations to become more modern with better facilities and technology. The construction is going according to plan and is expected to finish in around 15 months. Currently, there are fewer normal classrooms so some classes are held in temporary structures. The gym was destroyed so physical education classes are now at the municipal sports zone. The cafeteria was also destroyed and is now operating out of a temporary structure. A video will show teachers' and students' opinions on the construction work and its impact.

population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover

- 1. Escola Secundária com 3.º CEB de Pombal 2009/2010 Projecto Comenius Our School at present • Introduction: Last year our school celebrated its 50th anniversary. Although the facilities are still very preserved, this year our school started to be rebuilt in order to become a more contemporary and modern school, with good conditions as well as technological devices necessary for its proper functioning. We spoke with the engineer responsible for the project and she informed us that the construction works are going according to the plan. We expect that the construction works will finish in more or less 15 months. • Now we are going to show a video about the construction works. • Now we are going to show the impact that the construction works have on our school life. At the moment, we are suffering the consequences of the construction works. We have less normal classrooms, so we are having many lessons in a kind of containers, pre- fabricated classrooms. Our gymnasium was destroyed and now the students are having P.E. classes in the Municipal Sports Zone, which is also not very comfortable for the students and the teachers. Our canteen was also destroyed and now the school canteen is in a kind of a container, too. • Finally, we would like to show another video about our teachers and schoolmates’ opinions.
