EPILEPSY/SEIZURE EDUCATION
                    A free service for the school community offered by the
                         Epilepsy Foundation of Missouri & Kansas

The EPILEPSY SCHOOL ALERT program is designed to respond to the
needs of students with epilepsy, their teachers and their classmates.

TEACHERS AND OTHER ADULT MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL
COMMUNITY WILL LEARN TO:
    • Recognize a variety of seizure activity
    • Respond appropriately to seizure activity
    • Provide emotional support for the student by displaying an attitude of
      acceptance
    • Challenge the student to participate in all activities in which s/he is able
      to participate
    • Understand that seizure disorders affect learning skills in some students
      with epilepsy
    • Promote epilepsy prevention

CLASSMATES WILL LEARN TO:
    • Accept the student with epilepsy
    • Understand the temporary nature of a seizure and the mechanisms that
      cause it
    • Respond in an appropriate manner when witnessing a seizure
    • Reject negative attitudes towards people with epilepsy
    • Protect themselves against developing some types of epilepsy


Epilepsy Educators use lecture, discussion and videos to meet your group’s
objectives. Program length is adapted to the needs of the group.
Presentations are available for faculty inservices, health and science
education, disability awareness, or student advocacy. For more information
