Notes
Anchor weights.
Where two (2) anchors are required, the weight of one of the anchors may be reduced by 25%
provided the total weight of both anchors corresponds to the requirement given in the table.
Where anchors with the designation “High Holding Power Anchor” are to be fitted, the weight of
each anchor may be 75% of the table weight for ordinary stockless bower anchors
Chain cables
Chain cables may be of wrought iron, mild steel or special quality steel. Wrought iron chain must
not be used together with “High Holding Power Anchors”.
Where stream anchors are used together with chain cable, the cable may be either stud link or
short link.
The form and proportion of links and shackles are to be in accordance with recognized marine
practice.
2
Where wire ropes are used as a substitute for chain, the length of the rope should be 1.5 times the
chain length given in the table and a chain of not less than 12.5 metres in length should be fitted
between the anchor and the wire rope. The breaking load of the rope should be not less than:
o 1.0 ton for an anchor of 10 kg in weight;
o 2.0 tons for an anchor of 15 kg in weight
o 3.0 tons for an anchor of 25 kg in weight.
o 3.25 tons for an anchor of 45 Kg in weight.
o 3.50 tons for an anchor of 75 Kg in weight.
Where the weight of an individual anchor is greater than 40 kg, the vessel must be fitted with a
suitable mechanical hauling device for raising the anchor.
The Minister or delegated authority may assign a higher Equipment Number than calculated if a
vessel has high superstructure.
