This study examined the impact of language brokering on stress levels among Latinx college students. It surveyed 161 Latinx millennial students about their experiences translating for family members and measured their stress, anxiety, and depression. The results found that higher levels of negative feelings associated with language brokering were correlated with higher stress levels. However, this relationship was moderated by gender, with Latinas experiencing lower stress than males when reporting more negative feelings from brokering. The study aims to further understand how language brokering impacts the mental health of emerging adults from immigrant families.
