This document discusses three types of scaling innovations: scale out, scale up, and scale deep. Scale out involves spreading useful innovations through replication and expansion to impact more people and communities while maintaining the integrity of the innovation. Scale up impacts institutional roots through changing policies and governance at higher levels. Scale deep impacts cultural roots through organizational, cultural, and personal transformations that change relationships, values, and perspectives.
