sight. Eyes enable
people to perform daily
tasks and to learn about
the world that surrounds
them.
19. Topic 2: Animal Body Parts
Tongue

tongue is to taste food.
20. Topic 2: Animal Body Parts
Nose
The nose is an important
organ, or body part, for
breathing and smelling. The

23. Topic 2: Animal Body Parts
The long hairs on a cat’s
face are called
whiskers. They use their
whiskers to feel what is
around them. They can
tell whether they can fit
into a space by using
their whiskers.
24. Topic 2: Animal Body Parts
Fur
Some animals have
fur to keep them
warm and dry. They
shed their fur
throughout the year.
25. Topic 2: Animal Body Parts
Gill Covers
Fish breathe oxygen
through their gills.
They take in the
oxygen from the
water. The gill covers
protect the gills.
26. Topic 2: Animal Body Parts
Fin

Grazing animals such as elephants, zebras and giraffes have long,
thin tails with a tuft of hair on the end. These tails function like
built-in fly swatters that enable the animals to protect themselve
from biting insects.
Alligators store fat in their tails, and foxes use their bushy tails like a
blanket to keep them warm in the winter.
A dominant male hippopotamus uses his tail like a propeller to
spreadhis feces (poop) around so other males don’t try to horn in on
his territory.
Monkeys and other primates Tails are designed to help ananimal

A tail can also grab objects and has the ability to
act like an extra arm.
Birds use their tail feathers for steering.
