CWIN17 telford traditional to cloud shift - gunnar menzel Capgemini
This document discusses challenges organizations face when shifting applications from traditional on-premise environments to cloud-native environments. It identifies that while 15% of new applications are currently cloud-native, that number is expected to increase to 30% by 2020. When deciding whether to move applications to the cloud, organizations need to consider aspects like business cases, on-premise infrastructure, security, networking, data and application integration, service management, and cultural and skills shifts. The document advocates a six step approach for the transition: assess applications, build leadership support, start small and scale up slowly, adapt the operating model, be pragmatic about technologies, and incubate an innovative culture.

As part 1 of our TESCHGlobal Data Management Movement, a thought-provoking series for those interested in learning about cutting-edge techniques for managing data more effectively, we dive into what a Data Vault system is and how its methodology can provide full agility and accessibility to your data all in one place.
STAREAST 2017- Optimize Performance Testing Using Cloud and DevOpsTroy Marshall
Traditional performance testing practices don't scale when you begin delivering software using cloud computing and DevOps. Troy Marshall shares how Ellucian transformed their performance testing program using the same principles DevOps uses to deliver software. It isn't enough just to automate the execution of performance tests. You must continually optimize every step—from building the performance test tool infrastructure, configuring test scripts and scenarios, collecting metrics, and reporting results. In addition, by using cloud computing to implement performance testing, you create significant business value by reducing the cost, increasing velocity, and bringing more visibility to your application’s performance. Join Troy to learn how to enable your development teams to consume performance testing as just another service in the CI/CD pipeline, freeing them to focus attention on developing their products.

Barbara Roberts has been involved with Agile approaches since helping create DSDM in 1994 and has led many Agile transformations. This document aims to dispel common myths and misconceptions about Agile, such as that it is a "silver bullet," only applies to small, simple projects, or that governance and documentation are not needed. Roberts explains that Agile must be tailored to each situation and industry constraints still apply, but that Agile principles can help most organizations become more adaptive and deliver value faster.
Kellyn Pot’Vin-Gorman presents on empowering agile development with containers. As data increases, traditional methods of database provisioning are no longer sustainable for agile development. The document proposes virtualizing databases to create virtual database copies that can be provisioned quickly. It also suggests containerizing databases into "data pods" that package related environments together for easier management and portability. This allows development, testing, and production environments to be quickly provisioned in the cloud. The solution aims to remove "data gravity" that slows agile development by virtualizing and containerizing databases into portable data pods.

The familiar refrain is certainly true of the new-school, born-in-the-cloud set. But it can also apply to traditional enterprises that are reinventing themselves by coupling DevOps excellence with intelligent DataOps.
PACE, the roadmap for successful user adoptionRoland Driesen
How do you want to lead a project? Many projects are steered by top-down organizational factors: attention to technology, management, scope and budget. That is fine and gives results, but the most important key factor for sustainable change is missing. Namely: the human factor. A project plan is only truly complete if you also pay attention to communication, culture, scenarios and learning & development of your end users.
With PACE you approach a project holistically: from eight routes you map the current project situation and the ambition level of the change. Working with a special world map makes it clear at a glance on which route more or less guidance is required. And this guidance is available from the PACE toolbox: they complement your project plan on the routes where you can best use the support.

Hello everyone, welcome to this session from Litmos, on saving the world from boring elearning.
So before we start, I just want to introduce myself to you all.
My name’s Oliver Taylor, I’m Vice President of Support for Litmos.
My team operate 24/7/365 from locations around the world.
I’m based on the South Coast of the UK and it’s my first time in Singapore at this fantastic location. If you haven’t done so already I thoroughly recommend checking out the Skydeck and infinity pool - it’s amazing right?
I’d also like to tell you a little about Litmos.
As you can see, our mission is to save the world from boring e-learning. We have a best of breed platform, combined with an award winning content library.
We regularly win awards and accolades and we’re recognized as a leader in our space by industry analysts.
But enough of the pitch, you guys can hear all that when you come to our stand. So let’s talk a little bit about learning. And I want to start off with this simple statement.
It seems obvious, but it’s all too easy to forget when we’re doing our day jobs. If you deliver boring content, you will have low engagement from your learners.
Low engagement can actually hurt your organisation’s ability to innovate and create value. We’ll look into that a bit later.
At a round table customer event in London recently, a topic of discussion was that the expectations of learners are changing from Brute Force compliance to voluntary participation.
Sure, you can use authority and the threat of disciplinary action to make people complete their training, but is that really why you do what you do?
we think it’s important to distinguish compliance, from knowledge transfer, retention and behavior change.
In our experience, we speak to learning and development professionals that still work with systems designed for local delivery with poor user interface.
It’s common to receive negative feedback on the quality of training. An while it might do it’s job to get compliance, it doesn’t help foster a culture of learning.
You’re probably thinking that all of those things are pretty obvious right? Despite this though, Corporate training remains somewhat broken. The market spend is getting bigger yet organizations are falling behind expectations in terms of Learner experience.
L& D professionals are telling us you feel like you’re running on an endless treadmill with increasing demand from the business, clunky technology, boring content like Powerpoint slides and lopages of text.
Well I’m here to tell you it doesn’t have to be that way. When you assign that IT security training, you don’t need to see staff rolling their eyes and leaving it to the very last minute.
When you provide soft skills training, you don’t need to record low engagement.
You can say goodbye to dull learning and move learning forward from a compliance exercise to a voluntary action.
Pause…..........
OK. let’s think for a moment, What does learning actually mean ?
Ultimately, it is getting a message across to a learner. Often, in our roles in Learning and Development, we become too focused on our own internal hard metrics of who’s done what and when, and we use sometimes use a big metaphorical stick to inflate those numbers.
But it’s all for nothing unless we actually change behavior of our learners.
When you really think about it, learning, is at the core of your organisational performance. Arie De Geus, who was an executive at Shell Oil, said, The ability to learn faster than your competitors may be the only sustainable competitive advantage.
If you believe that, which I do, we all have a responsibility to create a learning culture. To provide an experience that makes people want to learn. That encourages them to develop themselves.
And that means you need to create engagement.
As you can see in this list from learning engagement theory (O’Brien, H.L. & Toms, E.G.( 2008)), Engagement is complex but for us, iit means our audience wants to do something without being forced into it.
So now you understand the problem, what do we suggest you do about it?
Well, we’ve put together 10 top tips to save your learners from boring e-learning.
We can’t escape the proliferation of mobile. Learning can be delivered during those moments of downtime or out in the field, on the device of choice.
Drive behavior based on game principles. Create competition amongst peers. Give instant feedback, recognition and reward to create an urge to progress.
Gamification can drive strong behavioral change and is an excellent motivational tool for a multitude of skills.
There’s an open debate about how long the attention span of an adult is. There is an agreement though, that it’s getting shorter. The impact of today’s world, the increasing expectation of having what you want when you want it, may be causing this.
It’s a worrying thought, but one we must be aware of when delivering learning. You have a short window of opportunity.
Compounding the problem of short attention spans, most people are not that great at retaining knowledge. Most people would struggle to remember a phone number they only use once.
That’s why we need to reinforce learning with timely bitesize reminders of key messages.
Learning should be, as close as possible, delivered Just In time. Make it part of the workflow for your audience.
It really helps to add personalisation to your training. Obviously it’s not always realistic to personalize to every individual, but you can achive a similar impact by using interests and trends. It helps to make people feel the training has been designed with them in mind.
It goes without saying that this one has to be on our list. Especially given that this one is our speciality. Content needs to be fun and engaging.
This is really important one and oftentimes, requires to buy in from your Executive team right through to managers.
At that same event in London, we had a few customers on stage talking about what they felt made their training work. This came up for each of those organisations.
Adult learners NEED this. Our time is already encumbered by so many competing responsibilities we need to know how what we are doing right now, or what we are going to invest time into in the future will add value to our lives. Don’t bury the lead in learning. Tell them straight out of the gates. Teach to the benefit not the feature. When you clearly articulate benefits and learners find success after applying the learning they will begin to find that coveted intrinsic motivation we hope for. - MM
* I think a critical thing training misses is having that one simple applicable thing that learners can DO / try / experiment with immediately after. I often coach people to add a “now you try” part to every training. One small thing to try, feel success with, that will lead to further adoption and engagement.
So to summarize, you need engaging and fun learning to deliver your message, using a platform that can deliver it where your learners are, when they want it.
Come and see us to learn more - Thank-you!
