The major producers of coriander include Russia, India, Morocco, Mexico, Romania, Argentina, Iran and Pakistan. However, the largest importers are Germany, United States, Sri Lanka and Japan. Coriander has been cultivated since at least the 2nd millennium BC in Greece and was one of the first spices cultivated by early North American settlers in 1670. It is classified taxonomically as belonging to the plant kingdom, angiosperms class, Apiales order, and Apiaceae family with the genus Coriandrum and specie C. Sativum.
