What is products .
 A product is any item or service you sell to
serve a customer’s need or want. They can
be physical or virtual.
 Physical products include durable goods
(like cars, furniture, and computers) and
nondurable goods (like food and beverages).
 Virtual products are offerings of services or
experiences (such as education, software,
and streaming services)
What is services.
 Services are essentially intangible activities which
are separately identifiable and provide satisfaction of
wants.
 Their purchase does not result in the ownership of
anything physical.
Products SERVICES
Products are Tangible Services are Intangible
Products are Imperishable Services are Perishable
Products can be returned Services can not be returned
Products are homogeneous in nature Services are heterogeneous in nature
Quality of a product can be measured Quality of service is not measurable.
Difference between products and services
 The transformation process in operation management is all about
converting inputs in to outputs . this can be done either through
manufacture or services processes.
 Manufacture-The physical creation of goods and services. Ex-cars
 Transports- The movements of materials and customers. Ex-taxi
services
 Supply-Change in ownership of goods. Ex-retailing
