Bart Sanciolo was born in 1955 in Messina, Sicily and moved to Australia in 1968. He studied Fine Art at the University of Melbourne and Education at the University of Catholic Education. Sanciolo has maintained cultural links to Sicily while residing in Australia, and has had a career that includes teaching, lectures, and design projects. He has held nine solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows while completing many public and private commissions over forty years, including large scale sculptures installed at universities, hotels, churches, and private residences.

Sanciolo was born in Messina (Sicily) in 1955. He moved to Australia in 1968.

Although a resident of Australia, Sanciolo maintains strong cultural links with his country of birth. His career
includes lectures, consultancies, design projects and workshops for art instructors as well as teaching.
Sanciolo has also held nine solo exhibitions and participated in numerous collective exhibitions.
During the last forty years, Sanciolo has completed numerous public and private commissions:
Corporate commissions include a ten metres, freestanding bronze high-relief depicting Dante’s Divine
Comedy (1977). This large scale public commission, installed at La Trobe University, was commissioned by
the Italian Community as a gift to the people of Australia. In 1993 the National Trust of Australia awarded
classification to ‘Sanciolo’s Dante’s Divine Comedy Sculpture’ as a work of cultural significance.
Other major commissions (1995 and 2001) include four over life-size sculpture groups commissioned by 101
Collins Street Pty Ltd, installed in the western and eastern internal moats of 101 Collins Street, Melbourne
CBD.
In 2000 Grocon commissioned Sanciolo to complete three major works for the Westin Hotel in St Martin’s
Place, Sydney. The first, a group of three figures are sited in the entry foyer and two further sculptures of life
size dimensions, are installed in pre-designed alcoves at the entrance of the formal ballroom on the lower
ground level.
2006 marked the commission of an over-lifesize sculpture, followed by two further sculpture commissions
for a private residence in Geelong.
As part of the 100th
anniversary celebrations (2003) St Patricks Church, Mentone, commissioned Sanciolo to
sculpt a set of bronze doors for the main entrance of the church
In 2012 Sanciolo completed three commissions which include: a six metre relief in Stainless Steel,
Aluminium, Bronze and mild steel for St Agatha Church, Cranbourne, and an over lifesize bronze sculpture
for a private residence in Brighton, Victoria, as well as a 9m high, Sculpture in Corten Steel, Stainless Steel
and Bronze for St Peter’s College, Cranbourne.
Late in 2013 Bart Sanciolo completed a set of Bronze Doors with a relief in Bronze for St Joseph’s Church,
Chelsea.
Currently Sanciolo is developing a suite of works for a forthcoming exhibition.
