Editor's Notes
I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and lived there until I was 4. I then moved to Dubai and started school there. The lifestyle was very different there, and the city was much less commercial then than it is now. When I was 6, I moved back to the United States and my family settled in Houston, Texas. While my family home is still in Houston, I live in Austin, Texas during the academic year to attend The University of Texas at Austin, where I am studying marketing.
I have had many career aspirations throughout my life. As you can see, I have very diverse interests. I came in as a business/pre-med major my freshman year of college because I wanted to help others and felt that medicine was an ideal way of doing that. However, my interest in science was not as strong as I initially thought it was, so I dropped the pre-med and decided to stick solely to business. After joining the American Marketing Association and attending various events, I fell in love with marketing, something I had my eye on when I was still considering pre-med. I declared marketing and I haven’t looked back since.
Food is my favorite way of expressing creativity. I loved art as a child, but after religiously watching Food Network for several years, I switched my focus to food. I love exploring different food establishments throughout the world and enjoy trying new things. I also thoroughly enjoy cooking and baking because who knows your taste better than yourself! I enjoy bringing unique twists to my cooking by mixing flavors that are usually not put together, but that I feel compliment each other well, which is why I’m a huge fan of fusion foods!
Here are the many hobbies and creative outlets I enjoy.
Photography
I recently got into photography when my father purchased a DSLR camera. When we go travelling, I try to practice taking pictures on manual. The bottom left picture is one of the favorite pictures I took in Istanbul, Turkey.
Hiking
While I enjoy urban life, I also love being surrounded by trees and nature. I love hiking in beautiful places to take in the breath taking views, enjoy some fresh air, and get in my daily exercise.
Art
I love painting and crafting! I enjoy making homemade gifts for my friends, creating scrapbooks for my family, and trying out different paint techniques.
Reading
Because my aunt is a literature professor, she conditioned me to love reading since I was very young. I thoroughly enjoy British literature, thrillers, autobiographies of different influences, and most genres of fiction! Some of my favorite books are pictured here, but a few honorable mentions are Never Let Me Go, Madame Bovary, and Outliers.
When traveling internationally, I think it’s important to immerse yourself in the various cultures of the places you’re visiting while still hitting all the touristy spots. This is why I would love to go on a Scandinavian road trip because I feel that it will include a level of spontaneity that will allow me to experience the Scandinavian countries to a greater extent and with more depth.
I strongly believe that I am most successful when I am doing something I am passionate about. Passion makes you take more risks, delve deeper into what you are doing, and perfect your ways of doing your work in a way that makes you the most efficient. When I think of where I see myself in the future, I do not have a specific job in mind, but rather I hope to see myself thoroughly enjoying the work I am doing. Passion is what drives creativity, innovation, motivation, and success.
One life long goal I have always had is starting my own charity or holding an administrative role in a non-profit. I am very passionate about helping others and giving back to the world. I have been given so many opportunities that many people in the world have not, and I would like to do my best to help those people out in some way. I also strive to help others in any way I can in my everyday life.
I learned about COMNIO through an American Marketing Association career fair where I met Ross. I was already interested because of my interest in marketing, but I decided to do a bit more research before applying for the intern position. The mission statement I read when doing this research really hit home, as COMNIO has the same values that I have for my own life. Since I have started working here, I grow to love what I am doing more and more every day. I am learning a great deal about marketing and I’m working with an incredibly wonderful, hardworking, and helpful team of people. I couldn’t be happier here.
