The proprietor of Hawkes Financial, LLC, Art J. Samberg manages venture capital investments in
the technology sector. A generous philanthropist, he donated a large sum of money to Columbia
Business School, which helped establish the Arthur J. Samberg Center for Teaching Excellence.

Founded in 2002, the Samberg Center seeks to promote teaching excellence throughout Columbia
Business School. Offering a wide variety of training programs and professional development
resources, the Center works to support faculty development, innovative teaching methods, and full
integration of the curriculum across topic areas.

A reflection of Columbia’s dedication to enhancing educational quality and building community
among educators, the Center recruits distinguished faculty members and professional consultants
to lead faculty development workshops and coach individual professors. The Center’s advisors
also provide constructive feedback on course content and faculty’s teaching approach. In addition,
the Center collects and archives students’ course evaluations each semester to aid prospective
students gain insight and make constructive decision about their potential professors and courses.
