- SALTO-YOUTH stands for Support and Advanced Learning and Training Opportunities within the YOUTH programme. The YOUTH programme is our primary focus but many of our resources can also be used for (international) youth work in general.
- Our primary task is to be of assistance to the network of National Agencies of the YOUTH programme, to the National Coordinators of the EuroMed Youth programme or to youth organisations in priority regions (SEE, EECA) where there are no structures in place to implement the YOUTH programme. Traditionally the main tasks of SALTO was to organise or coordinate learning and training opportunities (courses, seminars, contact making, study visits etc) with a clear link to the YOUTH programme. Recently SALTO developed into a network of Resource Centres, who develop, collect and disseminate resources for the YOUTH programme but also usefull for European Youth Work in a larger sense. The main tool for this is our www.SALTO-YOUTH.net website.
- 4 part time SALTO-coordinators started to work in August 2000, mainly organising 2 training courses a year on a variety of topics. A year or two later, the South East Europ Resource centre was created to stimulate YOUTH programme projects with this post-conflict region. An Information Resource Centre was created to set up an extranet, a tool for communication between the National Agencies of the YOUTH Programme and the Commission. With the diversification of resource centres, also the activities diversified (besides training courses, NA staff training was organised, contact making seminars etc). In 2003 2 more resource centres were created: on youth initiatives (Action 3 of the YOUTH programme) and on Eastern Europe & Caucasus (another Commission priority region). Together all 8 instances became a network of the SALTO-YOUTH Resource Centres.

- When you are looking for training opportunities, you can find a listing of training courses, seminars, study visits in the European Training Calendar. Simply enter the search criteria and click search. Very easy to see if something suits your training needs.

- You can also list your training activity in SALTO’s European Training Calendar in order to recruit participants. Make sure your training activity does fulfill the criteria listed. When you go to www.salto-youth.net/add-a-training/ simply login with your SALTO username and password (same for the whole SALTO site). If you are not registered yet, you can register and make a username and password for the SALTO site. When logged in/registered, you simply follow the wizard and fill in all the fields of the online form. Submit and done.
- When you are looking for training resources, you can inspiration from the SALTO Toolbox for Training. You can find a listing of different exercises, simulation games, background texts, checklists, reports, powerpoint presentations etc…. To search, simply enter the search criteria and click search. Very easy to get some new ideas. Of course it is still up to you to adapt the tools to your needs!

- You can also add your training tools in SALTO’s Toolbox for Training and contribute to an ever growing resource for training in Europe. Make sure your training tool does fulfill the criteria listed. When you go to www.salto-youth.net/add-a-tool/ simply login with your SALTO username and password (same for the whole SALTO site). If you are not registered yet, you can register and make a username and password for the SALTO site. When logged in/registered, you simply follow the wizard and fill in all the fields of the online form. Submit and done.
- When you are looking for experienced trainers, you could well find the perfect trainer for your activity in the SALTO Trainers Online for Youth (TOY) database. To search, simply enter the search criteria and click search. You’re only a step away from finding some trainers. Of course it is still up to you to contact and contract the trainers!

- You can also list yourself (or a colleague) in TOY if you (s/he) are an experienced international youth trainer. Make sure you (s/he) fulfill the criteria listed. When you go to www.salto-youth.net/newtrainer/ simply login with your SALTO username and password (same for the whole SALTO site). If you are not registered yet, you can register and make a username and password for the SALTO site. When logged in/registered, you simply follow the wizard and fill in all the fields of the online form. Submit and done.

It consists of a pre-course questionnaire, post-course questionnaire and a questionnaire 6 months after the course.
