Salamanca University is the oldest university in Spain, dating back to 1218. The city of Salamanca is known for its beautiful architecture, including the Plaza Mayor which was formerly a bullfighting arena containing 86 arches, and two cathedrals - the older Cathedral Vieja in Roman style and the newer Gothic Cathedral Nueva from the 13th century. A famous drink of Salamanca is sangria, made from refreshments, fresh fruits, and sugar.
