Saina Nehwal has had great success in badminton at both the national and international levels. She won national junior and senior championships between 2004 and 2007. In international competitions, she reached the quarterfinals of the 2008 Olympics, becoming the first Indian woman to do so in badminton. At the 2012 London Olympics, she won a bronze medal after her opponent withdrew from the final match due to injury, becoming only the second Indian woman to medal in the Olympics. Saina has received many honors for her badminton accomplishments, including the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, the Arjuna Award, and the Padma Bhushan award.
