This document provides an overview of the sport of kabaddi, including its history, rules, and top players and countries. 3. Introduction
The origin of the game dates to pre-historic times,
played in different forms. The modern Kabaddi
Game was played all over India and some parts for
the South Asia from 1930. The first known
framework of the rules of Kabaddi, as an
indigenous sport of India, was prepared in
Maharashtra in 1921 for Kabaddi competitions,
combining the patterns of Sanjeevani and Gamini.

4. History
The All-India Kabaddi Federation was formed in
1950 to look after the promotion of the game and
the Senior National Championship started in the
year 1952. The new body, Amateur Kabaddi
Federation of India(AFKI) came into existence from
the year 1972 affiliated to the Indian Olympic
Association(IOA) with a view to popularize the
game in India and neighboring countries of Asia.

5. History
After the formation of this body, Kabaddi took a
new shape and national level competitions started
for Juniors and Sun-Junior boys and girls. A
separate competition, the Federation Cup, was
introduced for men and women for the elite teams
of the country.

Regulations
Each team consists of 12 players.
7 players play at a time and 5 are in
reserve.
The game consists of two 20 minutes
halves, with a break of 5 minutes for
change of sides.
Usually, the Kabaddi play area is 12.50m
x 10m, divided by the line into two
halves.

• Priyanka Negi
Priyanka Negi is born 21 May 1991 is an Indian women’s Kabaddi player and the captain of the Indian National team.
• Deepika Henry Joseph
Deepika Henry Joseph is an Indian professional international Kabaddi player. She was a member of the team that won a (gold
medal) in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou. Currently playing for the country as vice-captain and as a raider.
• Payel Chowdhury
Payel Chowdhury (Born December 1st, 1992) is an Indian professional women’s Kabaddi player and the current part of India
national kabaddi team. She was part of the national teams which won the gold medal at the South Asian Games 2019 and the
silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games. Part Of Fire Birds team In Women’s Kabaddi Challenge. Payal is now married to
Prasanta Karmakar (para swimmer).
• Abhilasha Mhatre
Abhilasha Mhatre is an Indian professional kabaddi player and was the Captain of the Indian National Women’s Kabaddi
Team. She has won the prestigious Arjuna Award of Government of India in 2015. Known for her elegant footwork she is
regarded as one of the finest kabaddi players in India. She is fondly referred to as “Queen of Kabaddi". She was also a member
of the Indian team that won the Kabaddi World Cup in 2012 in Patna, India.

Mamta is the player from Rajasthan. She had shown her game in 66th Women Senior National Kabaddi
Tournament and mesmerized the selectors by her performance. Mamta is a skillful left raider and has many other
skills.
• Harwinder Kaur
Harwinder Kaur is the player from Punjab. Currently a member of the Indian National Kabaddi Team. She was a
member of the Kabaddi team that won gold in event of South Asian Games 2019.
• Sakshi Kumari
Sakshi Kumari is the player from Haryana. Currently a member of the Indian National Kabaddi Team. She was a
member of the Kabaddi team that won gold in event of South Asian Games 2019.
• Pushpa
Pushpa is the player from Himachal Pradesh. Currently a member of the Indian National Kabaddi Team. She was a
member of the Kabaddi team that won gold in event of South Asian Games 2019.
