Safety Practice on the Road
• Safety of the pedestrians especially the children remains a significant concern
of the local government officials in the community.
• Many children go to school all by themselves, Some of
them walk to school while some of them take the public
utility jeepney to be in school.
These
children are
at risk on the
road due to
the following
factors:
children tend to focus on
certain objects and forget
or ignore the dangers on
the road
children are not familiar
with the different sounds
on the road
children are not familiar
with the different signs,
symbols, and warnings on
the road
children cannot judge the
speed of the approaching
vehicles
children tend to be excited
about something that they
run without looking on
both sides of the road
some children's parents
are not around to
accompany them outdoors
drivers of public utility vehicles are
in haste to pick up other
passengers that they tend to speed
up even if the child passenger is not
completely safe inside the jeepney
children do not use the pedestrian
lane to cross
traffic aid is not around to assist the
children who want to cross
some drivers of motor
vehicles simply do not
have respect on traffic
rules and regulations
and this affects the
safety of children on
the road
children tend to focus
on certain objects
and forget or ignore
the dangers on the
road
What should
a child do
while on the
road?
if possible,
always ask an
adult to
accompany you

walk outside with
adult supervision
02
hold hands with
an adult while on
the road
03
walk side by side
with an adult, do
not walk faster
than the adult
04
be alert on the road
stop, look, at listen
check and read the road signs, symbols, and
warnings
focus on the road ahead of you
do not play running or jumping while crossing the
road
always ask the assistance of the traffic police

always inform an adult if you are going out

do not look at the rear view mirror so they are sometimes not
aware that a passenger is boarding and they speed up

motion
always hold on to the safety
handrails of the jeepney
for those inside the car, lock the car

inform the driver that you are
stepping out of the car
