Different Kind of Mobile Plant
 Excavator
 Forklift
 Bulldozer
 Crawler crane
 All Terrain
 Truck mount (telescopic crane)
 Luffing tower
 Tower crane (hammer head)
Static or Fixed Plant
 Compressor
 Wood working machine
 Steel press
 Appliance
 Pressure vessel
 Implement/tool steel press
Plants That Lift People..
 Mobile elevating work platform (MWEP)
 Mast climber
Planning b’4 Start Up
Activities
 Level the crane and ensure support surface is
firm and able to support the load
 Contact power line owners and determine
precautions. Know the location and voltage of
power lines unstable soil or high winds
 Make other personnel aware of hoisting
activities.
 Barricade areas within swing radius.
 Ensure proper maintenance and inspections.
 Determine safe areas to store materials and
place machinery.
Equipment Hazard
 improper load rating
 Excessive speed
 No hand signal
 Inadequate inspection and maintenance
 Unguarded parts
 Unguarded swing radius
 Working too close to power lines
 Improper exhaust system
 No steps/guardrails walkways
 No boom angle indicator
 Not using outriggers
Using Controls for Safe
Operations
 Isolating vehicles and plants from persons on the site
 Using fencing, barriers, barricades temporary warning or control
signs.
 Planning the direction that plant moves, so visibility is not
restricted
 Implementing safe working distances
 Using clear communication system
 Minimizing amount of plant working at one time
 Using demarcation lines or zones
 Using audible reversing alarm
 Using reversing/rear view cameras(see right)
 Using reversing sensors
 Using flashing lights
 Using high visibility garments
 Using spotters or observers
the use of the specific measures to eliminate and
minimized identified risks should involve the
selection of the most effective controls measures
based on a risk assessment
The controls identified in this alert are not
exhaustive and it is the expected that a number
measures would need be selected and integrated
into the system of work to ensure the highest
possible level of safety
