Mark Burgess is training for the 2011 Ocean Splash & Dash Festival in Wollongong Harbour, NSW on December 3-4. The event includes ocean swims of 700m and 1.4km, and aquathons consisting of a 250m swim followed by a 2.5km run or a 650m swim followed by a 6km run. There is also a 5km fun run. Burgess did his first aquathon on Australia Day this year, finishing 40th in his age group, and he is stepping up his training to compete in the 1.4km swim on Saturday and the longer aquathon on Sunday. He trains about five times a week with some pool sessions and open-water swims before
