RU-OKAY
A new way to check up on your discharged patients
TRADITIONAL FOLLOW UP
• Follow up care post ED visit is becoming an
industry standard
• Typically providers make a list of patients using
their ID stickers
• They call back patients randomly not knowing
whether or not they are having any problems
TEXT FOLLOW UP
• Text messaging may be a great alternative to the
random call backs
• Information can be entered at the time of visit and the
text back date and time can be chosen
• When the patient gets the text the following day they
can choose whether or not to have the provider
contact them to answer their questions
PROJECT
• After going to SXSW in 2017 I was inspired to
develop a simple text back program
• Since the initial program creation many Emergency
groups are developing call back apps but to date
no one has been using text backs
DEVELOPMENT
• By using Codementor programming helpers I was
able to develop a simple MEAN stack text back
app usingTwilio as the middleware between
patients and providers
• Over the past two years I have refined the
program to allow some beta testing
GOAL
• My goal is to start having other members of our
ED group as beta testers and collect more data on
whether or not using text back is able to better
capture patient concerns post ED discharge.
