The rubric provides grading criteria for an extinction event paper assignment. Students must: 1) Write a 1-1/2 to 2 page paper. 2) Include at least 4-5 of the listed items about the extinction event. 3) Demonstrate good effort and quality of work. The listed items to include are: the time periods, the suspected cause, two extinct animals by name, one environmental result, and what happened after the extinction to get things back on track. Students have one day in the computer lab for research and writing, and the paper is due the following day.

Notice the lowest grade listed is a C on the rubric, however, if you completely fail to
meet the requirements, work is bad, effort is horrible and you messed around a lot, an
automatic D- will be earned.
Items to include in paper:
Time periods involved (years and names)
What do scientists think caused the extinction event?
Name 2 animals that went extinct by name
Name 1 environmental result from the extinction
Did anything good happen after the extinction? What was it? (Usually in all extinction
events something happens after that gets things back on track. Tell me what happens.)
You will have 1 day in the computer lab to research and type. The target is only 1 ½ pages
long so one day is enough. You maycontinue the work at home if you like.

You can finish at home if you bring a disk.
