RSVP for the community
SPEARFISH, S.D, Oct. 24— RSVP volunteers Alyce Schavone, Rose Anderson, and Roberta Koehler, visited
with Black Hills State University Students on Oct. 26, to discuss their volunteer commitments with RSVP. The
volunteers explained programs that are available for members and what they enjoy about volunteering.
The Retired Senior Volunteer program provides an atmosphere for retired seniors to find enjoyment in life after
retirement. RSVP is America’s largest volunteer networking association for people 55 and over. RSVP helps
fill non-profit organizations with permanent and temporary volunteers. Alyce Schavone has been volunteering
with RSVP since the late 80s; 20 of those years have been spent volunteering with meals on wheels. She stated
that she enjoys volunteering at meals for wheels because often times she is the only person that participants will
see for weeks at a time. Roberta Koehler has been involved with RSVP for 5 years. She has turned her hobby of
quilting into a community action, by making quilts for the less fortunate. Rose Anderson has been volunteering
with RSVP for 11 years at various places throughout the community, such as the Chamber of Commerce. Each
of these ladies amongst other volunteers makes RSVP a great organization.
RSVP allows retired citizens to stay active around the community. Each volunteer provides a service to the
community that is greatly needed and activities for retired citizens to participate in.
