DISTRICT SERVICE COMMITTEE LEADS
CALNEVHA IN 3DAY COMMUNITY EVENT
SACRAMENTO, California; July 30th
, 2015 –– Circle K International’s CalNevHa District
Service Committee is set and ready to lead over 115 members of the district in their annual
event, the District Service Summer Social (DSSS), at the Hyatt Regency in Sacramento, CA.
This summer, DSSS will take place from Thursday, August 13th to Saturday, August 15th
.
The 20152016 District Service Committee is led by Edison Xu, a 4th year student attending UC
Berkeley. The annual event of DSSS aims to bring together members of Circle K International
(CKI) from all across the district of California, Nevada, and Hawaii, in a multiday event of
community service and social work. This year’s theme for DSSS is “Stars of Service”, and will
include service projects at the Sacramento Zoo and The American River Parkway. Both of these
local organizations are pleased to collaborate with CKI in continuing the restoration and
conservation of its community. Additional activities of DSSS include a group scavenger hunt in
Downtown Sacramento and a dinner picnic social in McKinley Park.
Xu states, “Summer time, and its absence of academic obligations, is the perfect opportunity to
better the community through service and forge everlasting friendships at socials. I am excited to
watch this event flourish because every member of my Service Committee has worked hard in
helping to arrange each project and social of DSSS. I truly hope everyone who leaves DSSS will
have renewed their passion for CKI, so that they continue attending future events as the
upcoming school year proceeds.”
DSSS has always been an annual event that aims to bring members of CKI together before the
collegiate calendar year starts, providing a strong foundation for the coming year through all
three pillars of CKI – service, leadership, and fellowship. The event will not only benefit the
community of Sacramento through its service projects, but will also use its social means to bring
together the community of CKI across differing states and universities. Members of CKI
- 2. attending the event will stay at the Hyatt Regency, where handson tabletop projects will be
performed throughout the weekend, as well as workshops and career panels hosted by
Kiwanians, the parent leaders of CKI.
Founded in 1934, Circle K International is an international collegiate service organization that
aims to promote service, leadership, and fellowship to all communities alike. It currently has
over 13,000 members across multiple districts around the globe. The CalNevHa District formed
