Rimavská Sobota was formed from the merging of seven villages around 1000 years ago around a church built by King Steven I. in the center. It was later called Štefanová and received urban rights in 1335 when King Karol Róbert visited and renamed it Rimavská Sobota. King Žigmund Luxemburg also visited and gave the town a coat of arms depicting a black eagle. Today Rimavská Sobota appreciates its history and personalities.
