PERSONAL SUMMARY
I am experienced, innovative designer, with a good grounding in classic design, approached
always from the supremely elegant with a high taste level. I am creative, yet still commercially
conscious and I always work, processing a strong vision, thoughtfulness, high attention to detail.
Through process of editing and developing a look or style, I always aim for deliver the highest
quality product to the market. I believe and practice, through extensive Research & Development
& consistent Editing, this is the ONLY way, that you achieve the greatest possible design
outcomes, that meet both their aesthetic & purposes intentions for the products designed end use.
This maintains and keeps the right cohesive dialog following between client and designer, and
keeps the brand/labels visual & aesthetical vision crystal clear, season after season. I am a great
team player and a decisive leader, who is ready and willing to make decisions, back them up, and
take responsibility for their outcomes. I relish collaborative work, in team environments; I am
easy to get along with, good at fostering and developing professional relationships, and also just
as reliable working solo and unsupervised.
I have previous experience in:
- Initial design concept, collection design and
range building fabric and trim sourcing
- Outsourcing and managing sample production and small
production runs organising and presenting runway shows
- Logo, label and branding design, setting, developing and upholding overall
brand feel
- Dealing with press and PR
- Looking after and dealing with one-on-one clients for couture basis designs
EXPERIENCE
CREATIVE CONSULTANT
2012 - Current
Offering services for students and Designers, working on their collections with them, with
Creative Direction/Product design development. Advising on sourcing fabrics & trims,
implementing services such as pattern cutting, sampling and Technical options, in order to help
them realise their vision. By helping them to understand both technical and philosophical tools
to expand their thinking, enabling them to realise and create unique and original collections. I
also work with them, and advise, on how they can develop their runway pieces, into viable
pieces which can go into production to be sold in stores.
This has been very rewarding for me and a great extension of what it is like managing a design
team and being in a role such as a Creative Director/Head Of Design/Product Developer
position. I have learnt a lot more about managing people and finding ways to get the best out of
them and working together to achieve a singular goal.
BEC & BRIDGE
Assistant Designer/Production Assistant
2012 – 2012
Working alongside both the design & production departments, I was involved in a variety of
experiences, showcasing my commitment, expertise and passion for fashion design. While at
Bec & Bridge, I was involved in the sampling and production of
SS 12/13 and AW 12 collections. Working primarily in the sample room, I was cutting toile’s
for 1st and repeat fittings, cutting production orders and also the runway and salesman samples
for the showing at Mercedes Benz Australian Fashion Week (MBAFW) in 2012. I Helped in
conducting fittings, sewing some toile samples, pattern cataloging, consulting with pattern
makers and designers in fit meetings and so forth. I also assisted in the backstage coordination
of the Bec & Bridge MBAFW Sydney 2012 event, with final model fitting, garment
preparations, changes during the show and management of FASHION WEEK staff provided
by the organisers.
ROY STORCH LONDON
Creative Director:
2009 – 2012
I started this fashion label while I was living in the United Kingdom. It was a High End
fashion house creating luxury women's Ready-To-Wear and Demi Couture pieces for retail
and wholesale market.
My roll was Creative Director and I was responsible for the designing of the collections; (all
of which were original ideas and concepts being designed and created from scratch).
Other responsibilities involved organising the sampling and production of the collections,
overseeing design of website layouts, imagery and photo shoots, design direction of logos and
creation of & maintenance of brand image, making sure the visual communication was
keeping in line with the philosophy for mission of the label. I was also dealing with clients 1
on 1 for Couture & Demi Couture sales, fittings and final delivery, and boutiques for
wholesale sales to build up the client base. I made sourcing trips to trade shows like Premiere
Vision Paris & Intertex Milano ext. for fabrics & trims, sampling and manufacturing suppliers.
I oversaw and implemented the presentation of runway shows and look books, directing the
outsourced teams of people from PR to production facilitators, defining budgets and making
sure they were adhered to, costing and setting prices. I work alongside the PR and promotion
firms, making sure the brand message/image was being communicated properly.
Major Duties of the role:
Designing the women’s wear collections, from original concepts. I started with
researching ideas and concepts, exploring my feeling and direction for the season and
collating that into mood boards, colour boards and style boards to use for the next step. I
had always attended the fabric trade shows, selecting fabrics and swatches that I also
used for design inspiration, in which to work from as I design my collections. From all
this information and working on the Tailors Dummy, exploring different shapes,
volumes, fabric drape and handle to broaden my mind, I would develop my collections. I
am always considering my client, who he/she is, where he/she maybe wearing the pieces,
applying context to my design ideas, as the client is ultimately the person for whom I
designing the collections for, the end users, who ultimately defines if your collections
will be successful.
I would then build the collection as
his/her seasons wardrobe, designing, editing, developing the ideas mindful of what the outcomes
was to be. This was process until I saw fit that I have achieved the outcome appropriate for both
the brand and clients need/wants AND Desires - relating to their lifestyle, style and chosen or
acquired Social Status. Once I finalised the collection it would be put into the sampling stage
where I would run through the designs and the overall direction/look of the collection with my
cutters and have them execute the patterns from my initial ideas. Fit meetings would follow, to
evaluate the looks, go over any changes that need to be done. Once happy, I signed off on the
designs and then the Final samples would be made. We would make two samples of each piece,
The Show Samples for the
runway/PR and so on and The Sales Samples, that were for buyers to see what it was really
going to look like for final production, as the Show/Press Samples are always elongated and
rather a little more elaborate, and the average person isn't a 5'11” Glamazon in 6” Stilettos.
I was working within tight budgets, being a startup label, and delivering product within that
budget. I was managing a team of people that included 3 freelance pattern cutters and a further 2
sample makers. I had a Personal assistant and a PR firm handling my public relations side of
things, and an investor/Business partner who was my CEO. I directed them
to accomplish the sample production for patterns, toile samples, Show/Sales Samples, press,
business and brand vision. I signed off on all fits, finishing and problem solved issues arising
along the way with my team the design process to achieve the desired looks. I sourced Small
Run Manufacturing and oversaw the small production runs and piece production for Couture
Clients. I would do private fitting sessions with Couture Clients and oversaw the management
and delivery of their garments. I managed the Photo shoots, directing the photographer and
camera team to achieve the desired look and feel I wanted for the season and Label over all. I
had runway presentations that I directed my vision through, selecting and managing model
casting, appropriate venue, signing off on lighting, music, make-up, guest listing and so on
