This rough edit of a student film only contains half of the planned scenes due to scheduling issues. While synchronization of audio and video was done well, some continuity errors occurred that will need fixes. One shot will be cut or refilmed to remove a visible camera operator's arm. Basic effects were added to one clip to experiment with the look, but music and other sound design was not included at this stage. Titles are still in progress to match the intended genre.

Keepsake Rough Edit
This is a rough edit of what our film will hopefully look like when completed but edited better and
more improved. This rough edit of the film only contains half of the actual film we planned to do due
to fitting time in to film where everyone of the production team could attend and time issues. We
started off doing the end scenes which were in the house before the start scenes which were
outside. This is because it was easier as the weather itself was being unpredictable so the exterior
scenes of the short film scenes where not cut into this edit. The synchronization of the film is
something which I personally feel I have worked well on. It all seems to be in place as I have
examined and specifically gone over each sequence of the scenes individually to fit all of the audio
recordings to the footage. The piecing of the scenes together to create the rough edit we have was
rather easy as majority of the scenes just fit into place and the cutting of shots works with the
scenes we have got. However, there are some scenes such as the scenes from 2:05 – 2:15 within the
rough edit clip on YouTube were not very easy to piece together. As continuity didn’t happen as the
actress folded the bed covers and we forgot to put them back it slightly messed up the continuity of
the shots. Another one of the shots at 3:18 will either need to be cut out or re-film this particular
shot as failing to notice, we have recorded and in the mirror, Liam, the camera man’s arm can be
seen. This is a minor error within the rough edit as it can be sorted.
During this rough edit I have not used after effects on any of the shots or sequences, I have added an
effect called texturized to see what it would look like with simple effects and this is in the clip at
3:16 this personally I feel is a good jittery effect which adds to the genre of the short film. Whether I
use this effect in the final edit of my short film personally I do not know yet it will all depend on the
how the edit is and how it will all piece together. As for sound effects and music, I have not
considered music at this moment in time as I’m not sure where it would fit and finding the right
piece of music to fit in the edit. There are no sound effects at the moment within the rough edit, but
there will be within the final edit as there are certain recordings which we will use such as the little
girl saying ‘Tabitha’ and ‘Tabitha come play’ and even a little giggle. This will be inserted as more of
an echo, ghostly sound.
There are no titles within the rough edit as it isn’t fully complete, they are still in working progress as
getting the right style of writing for the genre is slightly tricky yet becomes easier as the film is
complete. Using some sound effects within the title will be the aim of the final edit for me to do.
