Left parties in Bangladesh played an early role in the liberation war by organizing armed guerrillas who took the first oath to raise weapons against the Pakistani occupation. Figures from left-wing groups like the Communist Party, NAP, and Congress were involved in building cooperation between leftist forces. However, the left fell from a leadership position after making mistakes like boycotting post-independence elections due to theoretical influences and adopting the wrong tactical slogan of "rice before voting". As a result, the nationalist movement they helped launch transitioned to other leadership.
