Clearing and forwarding provides services, on behalf of an importer or exporter, With the physical movement (logistics) and legalities (customs) in importing or exporting goods from one country to another. This service involves two service providers, namely the clearing agent and the freight forwarder.
- 3. They are licensed people who submit declarations to Customs on behalf of the importers and exporters. They are be liable for the fulfillment of all obligations imposed on their traders.
- 4. Therefore, he is someone who: C&F Agents are a link between the owners of goods and owners of means of transport. Help cargo owners in efficient movement of goods to the buyers. Specialized people with knowledge of procedures and documentation involved in shipment of goods.
- 5. The competent people to comply with procedural formalities of the customs and port authorities, separately. Guide the exporters in providing information on the various alternative routes of transport to reach the buyer’s port. Facilitate in the selection of mode as well as route of transport to meet the delivery schedule, at economical cost.
- 6. We can categorize the various activities of Clearing and Forwarding Agent in the following groups: Advising exporters on trade laws Providing transport and handling cost information Packing, marking and labeling Arranging transport
- 7. Completing customs and port formalities Preparing and procuring documents Educating exporters on developments in transportation.
- 8. 1. ADVISING EXPORTERS ON TRADING LAW Guide the exporters regarding various national and international trading laws governing the exports and imports among the nations that can potentially affect their decisions of doing business. 2. PROVIDING TRANSPORT AND HANDLING COST INFORMATION Booking of shipping space or air freighting Advice on relative cost of sending goods by sea and air Providing information about shipping lines, freight to different destinations, and various charges payable by exporters.
- 9. 3. PACKING, MARKING AND LABELING They also do packaging, marking and labeling of the goods to be exported and imported on the demand of the clients. 4. ARRANGING TRANSPORT They arrange for the transport from clients facilities to the port, from warehouse to port, and all the internal transportation till the goods are loaded on the ship.
- 10. 5. PREPARING AND PROCURING DOCUMENTS Preparation and processing of shipping documents, Bills of Lading, Dock Receipt, Export Declarations, Consular Invoice, Certificate of Origin, etc. Forwarding of banking collection papers. 5. COMPLETING CUSTOMS AND PORT FORMALITIES They tend to complete all the formalities including inspection of goods, cess levied, submission of export documents, obtaining carting order, custom examination, etc. Everything is up to C&F.
- 11. 7. EDUCATING EXPORTERS Apart from doing other things mentioned, they educate exporters about various development in the area of exports and imports to keep them informed and updated. Other things done by them are: file duty drawback claims on behalf of the exporters, etc. Taking marine insurance In fact, the agents can perform all activities except perhaps selling the goods. Above all, the agents act as troubleshooters for the exporters in the case of movement problems.
