Robinson Crusoe was born in England but desired a life of adventure over his father's wishes for him to have a stable career. He went to sea twice, first experiencing a dangerous storm and then being captured and enslaved by Turkish pirates for two years. He eventually escaped to Brazil and later went on another sea voyage that shipwrecked him alone on an uninhabited island, where he survived for many years through building shelters, making tools, and hunting wildlife. He later encountered and saved the life of another native man, whom he named Friday, and the two eventually built a boat to escape the island after many years stranded.
